There's another thing about horses that is seldom mentioned, they will usually live past 30 years if you take ordinary care of them. That's an advantage but needs to be allowed for in any life plan.

I would not try to lure with any kind of food because you don't know the feeding regime of this particular horse. You don't know about food allergies, or whether just that one carrot or apple could cause suffocation or colic.
