Shed feather as a… sounding, rod?

I think a feather is never going to be as sanitary as a stainless steel too though, no matter what you do. It could even probably leave splinters behind.

Yeah, I took apart a pigeon feather recently and it kind of flakes off a bit, leaving bits and pieces behind.

No, it was found and boiled.
I mean, good luck, it sounds amazing and you are no doubt having fun. Just be careful.

Every feather in my collection I’ve gotten fresh, and I’ve kept them in an airtight container, that may be a part of it

I had to take the feather out to finish so I wouldn’t have to spend forever cleaning it, but my pre dirtied it up anyway :/

Notes:

Pros-
Gentler pressure than a regular sounding rod
Makes you feel close to your birds
Cheap and easy to obtain/replace

Cons-
Awful to clean/non-sanitary
You have to be extremely careful with certain, sharper feathers
The barbs(little hair like spindles along the shaft) feel really weird when you take the feather out
