Ummm.... you'd have to go back centuries to change this scripture..."-son" last names, and all nationality variation like Mc-. Yeah, unless you father's name is John, you're not John's son and you shouldn't have the surname of Johnson. Such surnames were used to differentiate who a person was directly descended from and changed every generation. They shouldn't have been retained into modern family line last names.
The same could be said for Smith and Tanner and Wright and every other profession describer.
I'd say first names used as last names are worse... Neil Patrick, David Paul, (and this one is real) Albert Albert - wtf ?
