I remember when going down to the dairy (convenience store etc) with like $5 get a pie (meat) a drink, bag of chips and lollies and still get change... these days good luck getting a bottle of milk n loaf of bread for under $10... (New Zealand here)

Nobody's ever really figured that out - All anybody knows for certain is that one spring, they were there, then later in the summer, Mom sent me to their cave to borrow a cup of sugar, and there was nobody home, all of their stone axes and furs were gone, and there was like half an inch of dust on everything in the cave. After a few months with no sign of them, the Grogs - a nice family of australopithicenes from the other side of the valley - moved in, and the incident was forgotten about. The only clue anybody ever found was the word "Cucamonga" carved into a stone column near the back of the cave, but since nobody knew how to read back then, nobody thought all that much about it.
