Does your zoophilia come from trauma?

I wish zoophilia was more socially acceptable
Dude, same. But my god society will never get to that point. Not in my lifetime anyway.

The only places in the world where people don't care that much about zoo is places that have basically 0 animal rights protections. And honestly, I would wayyyyyyy rather animal rights protections with criminalization for zoophilia than no animal protections at all.

considering the absolute horror of factory farming being the norm, i wouldn't consider the western world to have any real protections against animal cruelty. it's only potentially considered animal cruelty when it's not being done for profit. those laws have very little to do with actual concern for animal welfare

I mean, yeah. Good point. Even so, laws against animal cruelty should definitely be on the books regardless if our enforcement of such laws is inconsistent and shitty. But yeah you're right, profit wins over basically everything including human welfare

My zoosexuality doesn't come from trauma as far as I know. Granted, I am neurodivergent but I had a fairly normal happy childhood. I guess in my case, the zoosexuality is innate. In a way, it's all about differences in communication for me.

And on the double standards on animal wellbeing: if society would base its animal protection laws on what is best for the animal rather than human profit, then that would lead to some uncomfortable (well, for mainstream society) changes...

Certainly. But if it's between turbo cheap burgers and abolishing factory farming, I think the answer should be obvious

My dad was abusive up until recently, cus i can actually fight back now lol. But i'm not sure if that's related to my attraction to animals.

I've thought about this a lot, especially in therapy. And uh. Yeah- probably some of it comes from trauma. A lot of it also comes from the way I am though! The way we form relationships is based in what we learn from a very young age about connection and our needs being met- or not. For people with trauma, especially severe and repeated trauma, those patterns can look a little funky.

I've always felt my zoosexuality was a part of me like my gayness and transness. It was reinforced by how I was treated/what I was made to do, and nowadays how I view animals as "safe places" and generally attractive creatures lol. It's biological and psychological for me! I dunno. My therapist thinks all zoophilia is inherently an issue to be fixed though so who knows

I’ve had a lot of horrible and traumatic experiences with people and animals have always been there for me and they are so loving so I want to love them back
Same here, animals have just always been their and they just have so many qualities that are better than people

absolutely yes, animal cruelty needs to be a crime - we as a society just collectively need to have a good long think about what animal cruelty actually is, because as it currently stands it's a total mess of inconsistency, hypocrisy and puritanical moral panic. it's wild that people will eat a steak from walmart and in the same breath decry the act of person having sex with an animal. thinking really must be unpopular.

fuck, it must be demoralizing having your therapist believe your zoosexuality is something inherently wrong that needs to be "fixed" much the same way a fundamentalist christian feels about homosexuality. personally i couldn't take life advice from somebody who felt that way about my innate self

I am reminded of an ol' Radio Yerevan joke which went something like this:
you know, there's something we can strive for other than this and that which power-hungry authoritarian governments have referred to as communism. you've bought into a false dichotomy. the world's most powerful people rely on the ignorant belief that the only alternative to the current state of things is crippling poverty under soviet-style dictatorship. it's a fucking lie, my dude.

My dude, a) it was a joke which obviously sailed over your head, and b) the punch line is that "man exploits man" whatever the "ism" you're in... soooooooo yeah. Might wanna familiarize yourself with the "Radio Yerevan" style of jokes, just for shits and giggles.
