There are several people with actual stallions. But it is understandable that those people would want some sort of barrier to keep the horses from ramming the 40 cm+ (mostly longer, but they rarely go "balls deep" with a human, as it is physically impossible) right into their orifices without being able to go a step forward to limit the horse's thrusting depth.
As such the horses were either "bound" on a saddle or halfter to not move further forward than a given position or there's sort of a wall in front of them. And in comparison to a "really bound horse" this I wouldn't actually deem as abuse, as it's understandable to limit a 500-700 kg stallion in the movement on such a task (800 kg might be a bit over the top?).

Yes, Mr. ? is quite notorious for doing a multi-level ruinous job.
First was to go over the top (and on that time the whole "fence hopping" aspect and "farm breeding" group events were on another level), second was to not immediately visit a hospital afterwards. If your digestive tract ingredients spew into your intestines and around the organs, you're dead in minutes to hours.
