Anyone adopt their first dog after starting self acceptance and before any zoo experiences?

I have been into zoo porn for many years. Now I’m considering getting a small breed dog (I live in an apartment . I’ve never had a dog before but having a cat and him being a huge emotional support for me makes me want a dog even more. I’ve never had a zoo experience except for one time offering myself to a pup while dog sitting and then immediately being too afraid I was going to be bitten rather than licked.

Anyways.. I just have this horrible shame like I’m a horrible person for wanting to adopt a dog with the hopes that we will not only have compatible personalities but also be sexually compatible as well. Im curious how many others were/are in a similar position.

You should really read up on what kind of dog breed would suit your lifestyle and finances.
( You should never get a dog if sex is the NO 1 priority )
Don’t worry, I’ve been doing research on breeds and making decisions based on temperament and activity level. Sex would just be something to deepen the relationship if he’s even interested.

Edit: My number one priority is to be a responsible pet owner and raise a happy, well behaved, and loving companion.

That's exactly how it should be everything else comes as a bunus :p

Yes. I had cats since I was 12, didn't get my first dog til I was 28. I'd hoped we'd be sexual, but I also wanted to have a dog. He was never interested, but I still loved him as my best friend and only companion for 12 years.

I was so lonely when I got my rescue. Sex was on my mind, but so was companionship. Asking the right questions can show a lot about a persons intentions, and you seem to care. My life changed 180 for the better after I got my boy, but I also felt incredible guilt before hand, like I was buying an immoral sex toy or something. Little did I know he was the piece I was missing. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this! Im in that spot now too.. lonely and craving a real and raw connection. Just found out I can’t have a dog where I just moved which made the loneliness seem never ending .. but I’ll just focus on building up an emergency fund for them in the meantime.

I've always wanted a dog but after I accepted what I really want my desire to get a dog went up like... alot. Still don't have a dog but a big part of it is hoping they want to do it.
