Zooier Than Thou

Zooier Than Thou

In this episode, we interview Lucid Creator about a YouTube livesteam that went off the rails, and we reflect on the interview with members of the zoo community while weighing the pros and cons of inviting bigots to speak on our platform.

Thoughts About the Episode

This was an interesting episode, and we weren't really sure how it was going to go until it happened. On Episode 6.5, we called out Lucid Creator's podcast -- and more specifically his rowdy cohost's abysmal behavior. We issued an invitation to said co-host, whom we will dub Coyote Bitchtits, to join us on the podcast and go toe-to-toe with us. Bitchtits made a big deal about how he wouldn't come on our show, until Lucid reached out to us and asked if he could speak to us. We felt there was something genuine in Lucid's approach, so we decided to have him on and have a reasonable conversation. Suddenly, after a month of backing down, Bitchtits insisted we have him on as well, but only if he could bring his friend Rely on with him. After some waffling over the course of the week, he again resigned to not coming on.
Which is just as well. We feel like we had a constructive dialog with Lucid, and we're pretty sure we couldn't have such a conversation with Bitchtits. Even so, we wondered if such an interaction in the future would be constructive at all. So we did something that seemed obvious and had our podcast contributors weigh in on the issue, since listeners are the ones that are affected by it.
All of this makes for a really interesting episode with a lot of diverse views and insights, and it's definitely worth a listen.

This jam-packed episode explores the issues of women in the zoo community, guided by our guest host Vee, and enlightened by Ashley Wolf, creator of the Encyclopedia of Zoosexuality. Also, Zooey goes to the afterlife, Mrs. Mixies has a treat for you, and we introduce the helpsavemy.dog website!

Thoughts About the Episode

Fwew! Boy, this one took a little extra time to come out do to issues we had with Ringr eating one of our interviews. In the end, we had to can the interview until later, but I'm almost glad we did, because this episode is a whopping 2 and a half hours long! But it's also jam-packed with zooey goodness, including some excellent conversations with two women in our community.
Huge, huge thanks to Vee and to Ashley Wolf, as well as the women of ZooVille who weighed in, asked questions, and helped us create this episode! I hope you'll keep coming back and being a part of our podcasting community!
A couple of things of note: our firm stance on incels is unambiguously, "Fuck you. You don't belong here." We also have created a fund to help a good dog who was shot in the spine and paralyzed. Please take the time to visit helpsavemy.dog and leave a donation!

So what do you think of the episode! Leave a comment and let me know!

This New Moon episode of ZooTT discusses defining our zooey narrative in a media landscape in which zoos regularly face erasure and disenfranchisement. We are also joined by Volf, who discusses his experience using his voice to amplify zooey issues on a hostile podcast.

Thoughts About the Episode

Augh! I'm so mad that I left the "echo cancellation" on while we were recording! It's responsible for numerous audio glitches throughout the episode.
That said, this episode is definitely one of my absolute favorites so far. The conversation we had was so incredibly substantive, useful, and timely. It came out a bit long, but I think everything we talk about is worth taking the time to listen to. I hope everyone comes away from this episode feeling empowered to take their zooey narrative into their own paws!
I don't really know what else to say, except that this is definitely a good one.

Thoughts About the Episode

This week was really hard. Really hard. Things broke down on a fundamental level, and there was a point we weren't sure we'd be able to move forward. It was a very emotional week, but I have to say, the close-knit community immediately surrounding Zooier Than Thou was so incredibly supportive that they very much pulled us back from the edge of death. Seriously, I cannot thank our friends enough for being there for us when all hope seemed lost. I don't really want to go into details about what happened, but the important thing is, by the end of the week we felt rejuvenated and reinvigorated, and this may be yet another best episode yet.

And boy, is it packed full! At the beginning of the week, I was afraid it would be light on laughs and light on content, but by the end, it ended up being the largest episode we've produced to date! I'm quite proud of the work we put into this, and I'm really happy with the results. Seriously, there's a lot of really great stuff here.

Big shout out to our friend "Steve" who filled in as Zooey for our Dog Show segment while the real Zooey took a well-deserved vacation. He did a stellar job. And another shout out to an anonymous artist who made the fan art we used for the banner in today's Youtube video! OH! And ANOTHER shout out to another listener who sent us his Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas parody that we absolutely loved and HAD to share!

One last note for this one. We mention following up with the IP address on a bit of hate mail we received. It should be noted that we edited out the death threat portion of that e-mail, so that's the reason for the comments we made. I forgot to address that in the script.

We're really excited about the future of ZooTT, and we hope you'll be a part of it!

Let me know in the comments what you thought!

We can bark if you want to! In this episode, hosts Fausty and Toggle are joined by Kyon for an off-the-cuff discussion about safety in the zoo community!

Thoughts About the Episode

This episode was a ton of fun, until disaster struck. We had some sort of technical issue while recording, and all of my audio from our original session was completely unsalvageable! So I literally had to go back and rerecord all my impromptu, unscripted lines! Don't worry, though! This rat is a professional, though I fear some bits may be unintelligible to some extent, because I was listening to my trashed recordings and speaking what was spoken at the same time. Still, way better than the alternative.
I got to touch on some basic online safety tips as well, which is particularly relevant as I've just created a brand-new, zooey twitter account. God help me.
I really think there's some valuable things being discussed in this episode, even beyond basic safety, including the echo-chamber of anti-zoo twitter.
What did you think of the episode, folks? Let me know in the comments!

This episode, the boys interview Doodle Donkey, horse whisperer and zoo-exclusive podcast listener! Also, find out what was so Great about Alexander, delve into the ethics of fence hopping, and celebrate the diversity of zooey lifestyles!

Thoughts About the Episode

I've gotten to meet a lot of amazing people since starting this podcast, and this episode, we got to interview one of them: ZooVille's own Doodle Donkey. He's really an amazing dude! We also got to dig into the history books and unearth an actual zooey relationship for our Secret Zoo segment this time, which was kind of cool! This turned out to be a very horse-centric episode, by pure happenstance, but it kind of makes for a cohesive narrative tool.
One last thing: we got to share one of my most favorite e-mails we've ever gotten. Hearing from you guys about the positive impact our little podcast has had on your lives really makes me feel incredible.

Join Fausty, Toggle, and Kyon for the first annual Zoo Pride celebration! Our hosts ask the community about the meaning of zoo pride, share some zooey limericks, and enjoy good zooey times with good zooey friends.

Thoughts About the Episode

Honestly, I had so much fun making this episode. I knew when we finished recording it was probably going to be one of the best episodes yet, because there's really something a little subversive about zoos having as much fun being zoos as we were having making this episode. I'm happy with this one, and I don't think we could have had a better first annual Zoo Pride celebration together. Special thanks to all the community members who sent in audio for our Zoo Pride segment! We love you all so much!

In this special episode, Kyon fills in as guest host while Fausty's on a secret mission, Zooey helps a dog facing the horrors of Breed-Specific Legislation, and we debate the hottest topic on the zoo scene: Zooey, or Zooish?

_________________________

Thoughts About the Episode

Doing this episode without Fausty was probably the scariest thing I've had to do so far with regards to this podcast. Fausty can usually come in behind me and really keep the vision clear and focused, in his overly-verbose way. Thank Dog for Kyon, who happens to be very similar to Fausty in a lot of ways, for generally being willing to just do whatever when it comes to helping with the podcast. Still, I'm irrationally worried that I've guided this episode incorrectly without someone to temper my clouded judgement. It just sort of highlights how much I rely on Fausty to steer the ship, even when I'm keeping the sails in the wind.

How do you think I faired while the captain was on sabbatical? Let me know in the comments!

This week, our intrepid hosts talk about the weird website issues at zoo.wtf, and then take a deep dive into the ZooTT mailbag, musing over a lot of zooey themes in this off-the-cuff episode.

Thoughts About the Episode

We had quite a doosy of a holiday weekend, with the site literally being deleted for several days. It was kind of devastating at the time, but now we have a good laugh at how absurd it was.

I decided to give myself a bit less work and try to do this episode "Fausty style," or in other words, without a script. Since we had a ton of mail, it seemed like a good time to give it a whirl, and I have to say, I think the discussions we had with regards to the e-mails we received were hearty and substantial. We're not sure if going off the cuff is the right way to do it every time.

S1E3. Our Best Selves

This week, we take a more positive turn and focus on being the best we can be, featuring an interview with Zoo Pride Day founder and ZooVille administrator ZT Horse, a $10,000 secret, and a brand new Ask Zooey segment!

_________________________

Thoughts About the Episode

Episode 3 seems like a great place to start a blog here on ZooVille because of the overtly positive nature of the episode. Our interview with ZT Horse was extremely enjoyable and really set the tone for the whole show. I feel like this episode really captured the essence of what it means to be our best zooey selves.

Edit 10/31/19: This was the first blog post we ever posted on ZooVille! From here on out, I'll be re-uploading the previous blog posts.

Let me know if you agree in the comments!
