Such a Beautiful Bird the Barn Owl with that Heart shaped face (sometimes called the Ghost Owl among other names, due to its silent night flying).
Its too bad most of the Airships went down to dusty death....The idea was sound. Hydrogen wasnt the best idea, but that can be worked out....The famous Airship Hindenburg.. it was build in my former hometown...![]()
Just like the Concorde. One accident made it all shut down. Its too bad most of the Airships went down to dusty death....The idea was sound. Hydrogen wasnt the best idea, but that can be worked out....
Helium was very rare and expensive back in the day, only the United States possessed it in large quantities. But the U.S. Navy refused to supply helium to Germany because Hitler and the German Reich had become too powerful for the Americans. Besides, the payload was far higher when filled with Hydrogen, which made the flight to Lakehurst and other far destinations possible and rentable.Just like the Concorde. One accident made it all shut down.
Hydrogen, yes. In a documentary film it was told that they couldn’t buy enough helium, so the only possibility was the extremely flammable hydrogen.
