I want to join some Telegram groups, but can't find a way to make an account without using a real number. Does anyone know of ways to create a Telegram account while remaining anonymous (like not Google Voice)
 
Buy a prepaid sim card with cash not card and use an old phone from a location you are not usually frequently in.
Then throw the sim card out. The problem with that is that is you ever get logged out, you are not logging back in.
Telegram is designed to encrypt messages, it is not designed to save you from your own device not is it designed to protect your anonymity.
 
Don't. Avoid any app which requires personal information, that information is no faceless corporation's business.
 
With zoo which software you use is a tradeoff between security and the number of other people using it.
Unfortunately a lot of people use telegram despite the company actively removing illegal groups including zoo and collecting phone numbers. If you choose a more secure program like matrix that sometimes does not even require an email you get significantly less other zoos using it.
Let alone the fact that using any application for illegal stuff on your phone makes the whole thing by design insecure no matter how secure the app it self may be. The level of insecurity depends on how your phone works with the data you get over the app and how you use your phone.
For example if you use telegram on an iphone/android with face unlock, you have an inherently insecure setup that literally anyone who can pick op your phone can access. :D
