My first big moment with dogs hit me when I was older, though my obsession started young. Growing up, I was the kid always begging for a dog, sketching paw prints everywhere, and jumping at any chance to walk a neighbor’s pup. We got a Pitbull when I was a teenager, and that dog changed my life. He wasn’t just a pet, he was my best friend, my confidant, and truly part of the family. I’ll steer clear of too many childhood details to follow the rules, but that Pitbull showed me how deep the human dog bond can go. His loyalty and quirky personality lit a spark in me that’s still burning. Now, my two Cane Corso boys, a 2 year old and a 5 year old, are my entire world. My first time bringing home a Cane Corso was unforgettable. I’d researched the breed, known for its strength, intelligence, and loyalty, but nothing prepared me for meeting my first Corso pup. Those deep eyes, that huge head, and the way he leaned into me like he already knew me, it was instant love. I named him Titan, and he’s been my protector and partner ever since. Two years later, I brought home Nero, my second Corso, and the adventure grew even bigger.
That first night with Titan was something else. He was this giant puppy, all clumsy paws and endless curiosity, exploring his new home. I was nervous, wondering if I could handle such a powerful breed. Cane Corsos need a confident leader, and they’re smart enough to test you. Our first training session was a mess, me trying to sound firm while he chomped on the leash and gave me this cheeky side eye. But we figured each other out fast. I learned to be patient and consistent, and he learned to trust me. The first time he nailed the “sit” command, I felt like I’d won a gold medal. It was the start of something special. Bringing Nero into the mix was my first time managing two Corsos, and it was a whole new challenge. I thought I had it all down with Titan, but Nero brought his own flair. He’s the playful troublemaker, always stealing socks and trying to outsmart his big brother. The first time I saw them play together, these massive dogs tumbling around like puppies with wagging tails, I was in awe. It reminded me why I fell so hard for this breed, their strength is only matched by their love and loyalty.
Those first moments with my Corsos taught me so much. The first time Titan sensed I was down and just rested his head in my lap, I realized dogs don’t just live with you, they understand you. The first time Nero stood guard at the door, ears up and alert, I saw the protective instinct that makes Corsos so unique. Every walk, every training session, every quiet cuddle on the couch was a first that strengthened our bond. Caring for them is a lot of work, training, exercise, and keeping up with their energy takes effort, but it’s worth every second. Reflecting on my journey, from that Pitbull to my Cane Corso boys, I see how dogs have shaped me. They’ve taught me patience, responsibility, and how to love fully. It started with a childhood dream, grew through that first deep connection with our family Pitbull, and became this amazing life with Titan and Nero. I’m so grateful for every first, the joyful ones, the tough ones, and the funny ones.
