Bossche_bol_1.jpg

A Bossche or just called chocoladebol is a pastry from the Dutch city of 's‑Hertogenbosch. A large profiterole (cream puff), about 12 cm (5 in.) in diameter (i.e., somewhat larger than a tennis ball), filled with whipped cream and coated entirely or almost entirely with (usually dark) chocolate icing

Excuse me and instant while I book a flight there 🤤🤤

Quick question tho, does crawfish taste the same as the water they come out of? Like a mild earthly taste?
A few times, I’ve had them cooked but without seasoning. I would say that the “mild earthy taste” is very accurate. If you’re going to make some, do yourself a favor and buy Louisiana crawfish. Groceries sometimes sell frozen crawfish, but they come from China. Not the same.

Is hagelslag really a thing in the Netherlands? Or is it just internet hype
It's 100% real

On this picture you see the most common bread toppings in that category:

Top left: Fruithagel - mixed fruity flavors
Top right: Hagelslag - the chocolate variant where you hear so much about (most of the time it comes in milk or dark chocolate but also mixed)
Bottom left: Chocoladevlokken - chocolate flakes
Bottom right: gestampte muisjes (squished mice ) powdery with the taste of anise

Damn you people 🤣

I had to google the Hagelslag thing.
As a side result I was directed tobthe recipe for Rijstevlaai

Now, I *need* to preoare and give it a try...
(yes, I have a goat milk overproduction problem these days...)

Google? I even included a picture!

It's chocolate sprinkles... On bread!

Also rijstevlaai is also really good,
(I can't find a proper translation to English. They say Flan but that's what we call sone sort of pudding over here)

It's some type of pie filled with rice pudding and topped with whipped cream

Vlaai is a specific type of pie from the Dutch region of Limburg.

The world: Nutella is best on bread!
The Dutch: Houd mijn bier..

So like a rice tart?
Yeah I think Ricetart would be a close enough comparison i guess :ROFLMAO:

Yeah we've been doing sprinkles on bread for .... Well ages!..

Imagine the possibilities..

Hagelslag + peanut butter = Reese's

Hagelslag + Banana... Why not...

We even do another whack thing in the Netherlands..

We do speculaas (spiced bisquits - like gingerbread cookie?) on bread.

Full fat butter with it... So after some time the cookies became more soft/moist..

They even sell it especially for bread

australian-food-meat-pie-768x1152.jpg

Well we don't have too many unique and amazing dishes here, we have some really unique ingredients though but one thing that comes to mind is the Australian meat pie, other countries have their own pies in their own variations but we have the largest variety on the planet... Name a meat and we have that in pie form... I've even had a spaghetti Bolognese pie which was surprisingly good and would try again... And then you have pie floats which is pea soup with a pie floating in the middle which is often served with mash potatoes

If you ever wind up in South East Queensland look up Fernvale bakery, 250 flavours of meat pie including camel, crocodile, emu, venison, kangaroo, goanna, snake, mutton, barramundi etc etc...

Or even just ask an Australian where the best place to get a pie is, literally everyone here will have an opinion

I love pies, it's great how you can change up the filling in so many ways!

The thing with pavlova is.

It looks great but it's way and way to much sugar for me as a diabetic.
It's literally sugar and egg whites 😨
As a non diabetic its way too sweet for me... Makes me feel sick when I eat it

That looks really great!

I've been trying to figure out what type of meat Bologna is..

Whenever I look it up it gives me so many diffrent types of sausages ans stuff..

I think if I have to guess it looks mostly like Dutch boterhamworst but I'm not sureView attachment 396807
Bologna in the US is a very cheap sausage. Different cuts of pork, beef and chicken are emulsified together and formed into a sausage shape that we call a "chub". It's quite similar to what the Italians call mortadella.
This is something I ate as a child alot because my family did not have alot of money. It's cheap, it tastes good and you can do all kinds of stuff with it. Often times my mom would slice it quite thick fry it in a pan and put it between two pieces of sliced bread toasted in the pan with cheese or what we called a bologna grilled cheese sandwich.

That's your take on the rijstevlaai?

It's sure puffed up.
Really looks like a swollen cheesecake.

Still looks good tho, would love to give it a try!

Hope it turned out as good as you hoped!

Tonight we ordered here!

Some Greek since the parents of my girlfriend went on a holiday to Greece today.

So some Bifteki, gyros and fries for us!

Made this one this weekend.
Just simple ground beef with Mexican/southwest spices on a bun with cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes and onions.
It's basically a Mexican cheese burger aka a torta.20230521_183430.jpg
