A little late to the conversation, but I think the only time my newfie howls is occasionally when I go to take her outside. It's kind of hard to describe but it's kind of a "Awooowoowoogrrr" with an ever so slight sounding growl sound at the very end, though not actually a growl. It's actually friggin' adorable! I'll often give her an "Awooowoowoogrrr" back to her when she does it. I've never heard my littler girl give an awoo in her life though.

Usually my two just whine when they hear sirens. Especially when they're testing tornado sirens, but they also dislike firetruck sirens in particular as well.
