Why do people treat zoos like they are monsters?

Pretty much boils down to religion and control, why it's been outlawed and banned when a certain few religions became global. Most of the old religions involved animal and human relationships as a normal cause not everyone is comfortable with their own species

I think this question isn't easy to answer. Of course we can say its because religion or morals or because people are stupid and all of this is true, a bit at least.
And yes, religious people think often they have the morally high ground in their very narrow perspective. But those people also think the earth was created 6000 years ago...
In my opinion, this hate has a few different sources:
1. Lack of intelligence
2. Lack of empathy
3. Jumping to the first conclusion that comes into mind.
4. Not to be able think about something logically and without emotions
5. The strong belief to be 100% right
6. The way I live my life is the best and everybody has to live his life my way.
7. People that like other things then mentioned in 6. must rot in prison or die.

Ok, first point is easy. People with an above average or high iq tend to be more open minded, to view both sides and are dont judge a book by its cover or the first 5words ( I like Sex with dogs )
This often comes together with (2.) deep empathy. If you cant mirror and understand others feelings, you tend to believe they think and feel the same as you.
3+4 If you are shocked by smth, you tend to dislike it. You dislike it, you dont like to think about it. Emotions. If you are able to think about controversial things and things you don't like without emotions, then you may come to another opinion.
5,6,7 Is (in my opinion) the mindset of every ultra conservative and/or religious person.

If you look at the hate the LGBTQ+ community is facing in the USA at the moment, you can find the same pattern.
Narrow minded, ultra conservatives loose their mind about 2 men loving each other. (7.) Trans people? Some politicians claim "Men just want to go to the womens restroom (3.) and people who have never thought about trans people belive this (1,2,3)

They hate LGBTQ+ for the same reason they hate us: They don't understand and don't want to, they don't feel that way so it must be wrong. And if it's wrong it has to disappear and never exist again.

Yes, that's a lot of text and thoughts, but it is a very complex theme and a simple answer is mostly incomplete.

Have nice day,
KL

honestly i think it comes down to two things... conservatism and ethics.
don't think i need to explain conservatism much. new things are scary, and people don't like new things. zoos have been around since forever but because it's super taboo in our society, it might as well have been invented yesterday.
ethics is kinda funny, i think, cause it's half justified and half plain wrong. the wrong part is the idea that animals can't consent. don't think i need to dive too deep into that cause i'm sure y'all get it :3 but the part that's kind of right is that a lot of zoos don't actually care about consent. this is an uncomfy topic but i think it's true. you see it in all kinds of porn. men and women and anyone in between are all guilty of this. some act like things that aren't clear consent are consent, and some people just do it. you hear it and see it in online news all the time.

anyways, if there was some way to prove that zoophilia is natural and ethical, i think things might shift a bit!

They think we are doing it for self pleasure and hurting them. But we actually care more about their heath and safety then having a sexually relationship with them

Having known many anti-zoos, it surprisingly doesn't often relate to religion. It often seems to be an issue of disgust first and foremost, and an issue of consent secondly.
Many people believe that if they are disgusted by something, that alone is a reason to find it morally reprehensible, even if they don't consciously think that disgust is their only reason. (If you ask why zoophilia is wrong, you may often get a response of "It's wrong!" or "It's an animal!")
The other is the consent issue. It seems to boil down to three talking points for this issue:
- "An animal is less intelligent, so it's rape even if they seem to consent" (I feel like this sounds kind of ableist. Does the same hold up for humans? If you're a genius, can regular people not consent?)
- "They can't verbalize consent, so they can't consent at all" (Even humans don't always verbalize consent in the moment, but their behavior can make it obvious they're interested.)
- "They don't understand sex like we do, so it's taking advantage of them if we have sex with them" (I personally feel like people treat animals like they're a lot more stupid than they are. We're animals too, and all animals have sex. Regardless, if the animal isn't hurt, is having a good time, and willingly engages their human partner... how is that abusive?)

but the part that's kind of right is that a lot of zoos don't actually care about consent. this is an uncomfy topic but i think it's true. you see it in all kinds of porn. men and women and anyone in between are all guilty of this. some act like things that aren't clear consent are consent, and some people just do it. you hear it and see it in online news all the time.
This is absolutely part of why I think zoophiles get such a bad rep anyways. For so many people it seems like they're just fetishists, the sex is the most important thing and the animal is just a vessel for it. Their pleasure comes first, not the safety/happiness of their partner. :/
So many people just want to fuck an animal, not love one.
