Was the Furry fandom really created by zoophiles?

I have heard many zoophiles state that the Furry fandom included zoophiles as some of its "founding members". This usually comes from zoofurs during arguments with antizoo furries. I was wondering if there was any truth to the claim.

Does anyone have any information on whether or not zoophiles were documented to have had a part in the organization of the Furry community?

It's hard to say exactly what you consider the start of the furry fandom. I'm not sure if there's any evidence the early founders of things like Confurence Zero or early furry Zines were zoos, but I can say from personal experience that it was more open in the 90s and 2000s. Before bad dragon, there was Zeta Creations who sold "life cast" dildos and gave out pins with zeta symbols on them. I knew plenty of zoos in positions of authority running websites or running conventions.

While I can't say there were specific prominent zoophiles in the organization of the furry fandom, they've definitely always been an active part of it.

You also had the open and public mIRC chats for zoo back then, it didn't get the kind of treatment it does now. I had one friend who wore his zeta pendant to cons as recently as 2015. Couldn't imagine he does in the current climate though.

I can't recall any high level staff who I could 100% say I know were zoophile in the last 10-20 years but I know there were quite a few who were zoo friendly/adjacent.

Zoophiles have been around for as long as time. I remember back on beastforum that furries were becoming more popular. I would definitely say that zoos had a heavy hand in starting the Furry community and probably still have a large hand in it. I've also heard of many zoo/furry after parties taking place after conventions hosting furry events. I would assume those are far and few now. Or very difficult to become apart of. There will be no documentation that you will find in regards to the history of the Furry community with zoos. And only word of mouth at best. Most Furrys now try to seperate themselves from zoo to look more credible. And many that are zoo still want their anonymity so finding specific people will be next to impossible. Wearing the zeta symbol now will definitely lead to bad attention. I recommend against it. I know some have the best intentions, but there are others that don't. And believe it or not. There are anti zoo furries. Which to me is kind of boggling, as I believe furry is a sub culture of zoo.

I mean yea that's fair but zoos kinda have a hand in any community relating to animals whatsoever

probably not. furry is to animal cartoons like cosplay is to anime. it can attract people who are sexually attracted to animals and dressing up. but people have been dressing up in animal skins and in the image of animals for thousands of years. thats where they might have gotten the inspiration totally naive of anything zoo.

furry is not really original in that sense so theres no reason for furries to be upset when furry is "zooified" but it might offend zoos who like real animals, the same way people who like real sex might be offended by sex cartoons.
real sex and real animals are certainly better than cartoons, porn and a burlap bag with a man in it.

I think stories of Zeus or Loki or whoever turning into any and every animal and fucking or being fucked by any and everything is teh start of both groups.

Several zoophiles out of German / Austrian origins created or assembled furry events, groups and quite a few still are active in corresponding positions out there, nowadays a bit less obviously than at a time where it was less parted into antis and zoofurs.

Edit: This is just out of an EU based viewpoint. In the US as example there were and are different groups, there is not "one" community but the modern communication methods give the impression that it is.. internal affairs are quickly brought to international medial attention, even if small or without real relevance.

There was a time where the "antis" of today were animal protection organisations or just owners, private persons with different opinions and a plain hate which organized in private forums. They were almost never furries. Nowadays it's a sort of mainstream "pick your side" concept.

At that time I didn't know any furry which was not at least a bit interested in real animals. Either sexually or as a caretaker, warden / zookeeper. Some didn't live it out but they still were "loving" animals platonic. Nowadays it's just hatemongering on all sites, as this is the easiest way without many thoughts, without reflecting, taking a stance, doing something. Everyone can feel "good" without actually bettering anything.
