User Permission Updates and Forum Changes

Hello,

the new minimum limit of 20 posts was introduced in order to reduce lurker spam. This refers to spam actively sent by people who have fewer posts than this minimum limit. Why, then, are members with more than 20 posts, who are assumed to send less spam, unable to send private messages to people with fewer than 20 posts, i.e. in the opposite direction?

Greetings
CdB
Perfectly said. I had not seen this before I posted about this issue myself, and if you have the ability to start PMs as a citizen here if you are interested I would love to have a conversation with ya

It does seem like I do still have the ability to PM accounts that already have access to PM which makes sense. I was a bit confused with the wording of this post but it seems to be a really good idea and I was actually wrong about my only concern.

Apologies to staff for the confusion here 🫡

Im here to meet other people who feel the same way I do, and I am not one who likes to say something if i dont feel like i have something to say. I also cant spend every waking hour here looking for something to respond to publicly. Im an introvert and these topics are sensitive already, so for me to have to post 120 more times - and not spamming - will take months. Ive already been around a while on here so it kinda feels pretty crappy to loose access to starting private conversations with people. Most of those conversations I have been able to start havent gone anywhere - so i do understand creating some systems to clear out the "wank brigade" as you say, it just feels like im being punished and I didnt do anything wrong.
Goodness, you're acting like the world is ending. These are the new rules, accept them and stop whining. This isn't a dating site, and the majority of users like the new rules..

I appreciate what this site is for, and that it isnt mine. I should be allowed to have a reaction - and voice concerns.

My initial post was asking for clarification (from staff) because of a concern i had(based on the language used) and i do believe i was pretty mature in how i went about it as well.

Side note: Im not really here to date, just meeting people who feel the same way. I'm glad to know I still have the ability to start those private conversations.

In any case, I have already apologized to staff(about the confusion causing my concern - not about having a concern), which you are not. Either way I do apologize, I seem to have offended you and this wasn't my intention, as I'm sure is apparent.

Firstly, I completely understand.

So to clarify, first you said to PM you must be member 30 days and then also have 20 posts, and then you say we may loose ability to PM if we dont meet both thresholds...
Exactly.
You have bern here for over 30 days, and you presently have 52 messages, so you have an "start conversation" button and you CAN message people now.

I understand not being able to send photos in PMs without meeting a higher threshold, but do i now have to post 120 more times to be able to privately message other users now?
No. You can message them now as is. Just you can not send dick pics orcwhatever attachement you fancy sending.

It is not 120 *more* cause you already have 52.

If you don't have 20 posts in general, then you don't get the ability to. Its just being signed up in general for 30 days and having 20 posts, if you don't have 20 within 30, then no pm. Till you get 30.
Also doesn't mean quickly spam 20 posts just to get it, because one of us will just happen to delete all of them.

Its not that you should make it a job to post on here everyday, find a thread you like to respond to. Or make one of interests that fits a category. You just take as long as you like.

Are posts the same as replies to posts or must they be new threads? Personally this makes me feel a lot more comfortable about the site. It's not something you want to talk to just anybody about. Happy to wait the 30 days.

@FloofyNewfie good job. Did you also update this info in the rules?
Both the rules, and all of @Oldman's pinned "Private messages and why new members can't" threads will need to be updated. But I have not done so yet.

any changes toward the groups sections?
The ability for new members to create groups was also revoked. But honestly that was an oversight, as it should have been revoked before.

However, don't be surprised if some potentially major changes happens to groups themselves in the future. Because as they stand now, they're a bit of a moderating nightmare to deal with.

The OLD PM restriction were as follows: "You must make 10 posts on the forum to unlock it, and there was no set number of days you had to be a member to unlock it."

The NEW restrictions are now: "You must make 20 posts on the forum and you must be a member for 30 days."

The forum software only cares about numbers, when it comes to user permissions for user promotions. So what I mean by "you may lose your ability to PM if you don't meet both thresholds" is that if a member previous had e.g. 12 posts and had been a member for e.g. 20 days, they would have previously been able to send PMs. But with this new update, the same user would now need to make 8 more posts and wait 10 more days to be able to PM again. They would not be grandfathered in.

These changes are mainly due to privacy and user safety concerns. To view the forum you HAVE to be a member of the forum. Due to the nature of zoophilia and bestiality, and due to the fact that this is the largest forum about these topics, we believe having an account should be a bare minimum requirement.

Thank you for your understanding on the matter.
I do believe that these are some great changes overall, it is true that ZooVille is essentially the largest Zoophilia forum out of all currently, and I hope it stays that way for the forseeable future.

Throughout my life, I have always been a severe lurker online and have never really posted anywhere on the internet at all, but more recently I have been trying to change that a little.

They would not be grandfathered in.
You sure about that?

Existing lurkers were grandfathered into PMs in the original 10 post requirement change made back in '21, and I'm pretty sure I've seen at least a few profiles in the last day that still have PM buttons despite being below 20 posts, and not being part of the 4+ year old group that was grandfathered in '21.

Don't know any off the top of my head, but if I spot one again I can post it if you want.

While I haven't penetration tested it, I'm pretty sure.

The forum software has user permission redundancy. Every account will have 2 places where an account will have permissions set. One is the base level (selectable) and the other is promotional (checkmark-able.) Basically when the 2021 promotion change was added, it set the new base level (selectable) permission to a new lower base level moving forward. However the pre-2021 accounts still had the, then and now, second level of promotion already selected. Because the initial "first level" became the "second level" moving forward. So pre-2021 accounts basically get treated as if they are on the second level of promotion instead of first level, because they are in the selectable section but not the checkmark-able section.

When you create a new account it'll set the selectable to first level, and when they meet the threshold for the next level, it'll checkmark the next level of promotion. It's basically stackable. The pre-2021 accounts still get the stackable checkmark-able permissions applied, but their base level is higher than post-2021 accounts.

However, unlike in 2021, I didn't add a new promotion. The main change I made was that I upped the promotion criteria of the already existing promotion. The forum software will not unselect the selectable base level automatically, but it should uncheck a promotion if they no longer meet the criteria to have it.

Kinda bad for people that don't stay on long enough to make a post due to they have to work or have family that don't know how they are into this. Like me for example I work 6 to 7 days a week I'm tired when I get home. I get on here maybe 5 to 10 min then I'm about. Is it going to affect me?

Why should this affect you? You have over 20 posts and have been here for a long time...

Funnily enough this is me ahaha I just quietly couldn’t figure out that was the issue until I saw someone else say it was 10, now it is 20 but I can manage as I do

ut I can manage as I do
Because your account was made before July '21 and grandfathered in. Still, I don't know how you could have gone all that time without seeing you could message some and not others and then looking to figure out why. Have you no human curiosity?
