I just wonder if I was to swab a bitch on heat keep the swab in the freezer when the mood hits defrost and dab the target area would that improve the interest? Seems to me it’s mostly about scent that counts.

I don´t think that's necessary. Maybe will improve the interest, but its the first time I hear about that technique regarding dogs. I know for horses its almost 100% guaranteed.

Its also not going to work. The "shelf life" of such scents is very limited even kept in the freezer.
Best bet is to get them really hyped up! Play, jump around wrestle and as you do it give short burst of stimulation at the base of the sheath so that they buck once or twice. Then randomly drop. When you drop give more stimulation.Repeat the process until the slightest touch gets them going. Eventually they will mount and when they do, give them bursts of stimulation (slightly more intense). Keep trying this until they find the right spot! Ps. When dropping, get on your knees and arch your back to get your chest as close to the ground as your flexibility allows. With only your ass, makes it less confusing for the dog to figure out where to mount
