I definitely see what you're saying, but I think a dog would tell the girl/guy if it hurts. It could be like trimming a horse's hoof, where the horse will show if it has discomfort by jerking around and trying to get away? I could totally be wrong though, and completely agree that a dog being handled roughly should be concerning.

So, on the subject of holding the knot. This is actually an entirely natural part of mating, as they lock to the female in a similar way, and the male will pull against it.

Is it abuse? On its own, no. I hold my male's knot until it starts to shrink, just as my female held his knot until it could release. And if he REALLY wants loose, he knows how to say so.

Now, do I yank him around by it? No, he pulls on it, but it's him creating the tension entirely. He also doesn't pull all that hard either. So I would say there's a window for abuse there, but not just on its own.

Holding the knot is the expected way canine mating works. Dogs will actually tug on the knot on their own, some even pretty hard. And in natural mating the female dog also tugs on the knot from the other side.
So quite a bit of pressure is ok and expected by the dog.

But holding the knot is actually rare in porn. Most of the time you see people hold the legs, tail, the whole dog and so on and not the knot. And that is borderline or entirely animal abuse.

Porn is not a great place to go looking for instruction, even normal porn is a set up with so much pre-prep and background stuff happening before you film anything.

Holding behind the knot is quite acceptable as that is a normal mating occurence, where the knot is locked in the vagina, so it is in female/animal sex, and holding it is just an extension. Sucking is another matter. I always teach not to suck but just to slide the mouth over his length. And the same for stroking it, most dogs do not like you gripping their cock and stroking it, it is uncomfortable and unnatural.

Exactly this, when I take my male in my own mouth, I slide it in, and hold it in place, sometimes ill lick the tip, as I've seen him do, but that's it.

Whenever I take care of the boy, there is only movement when he humps to get everything out and engorged, but then it's a lot of sitting there, rubbing his chest, thighs, etc.

Just to be clear if you grab the penis firmly between the knot and the tip, that is abusive in my book.
If you grab the penis firmly between the knot and the sheath that can be abusive too, but holding the penis behind the knot is where you should be holding it. But if you don't handle the dog roughly then it should be fine even tugging the knot is ok within reason, but I mean this is a sensitive part of his body so just yanking it like there's no tomorrow is not on either. Normally the dog will apply the amount of pressure tugging they like if you just apply resistance to appose their movement. But some pressure on the back of the knot is needed for the dog to orgasm properly.
