Remove the Dumpster Fire Section option in Preferences doesn't seem to work?

I think it was not implemented completely so it never worked.
But the DF should not be displaying in the new posts feed and you can unfollow any thread you posted in in there.
Then you will not get notifications from them and you can just ignore the link on the main site.

ah ty for clarifying.

sorry if this isn't the right forum for this. but I genuinely could care less about the Dumpster Fire and the option to hide/remove it isn't working.
A year ago, we figured out how to convert DF to an opt-out system, but the switch doesn't work and no one has looked into how to fix it since.

Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't work, and likely never will. I've spent countless hours of my time trying to get that "opt-out" option in your profile settings to actually function properly. But after a ton of research and experimentation in the admin panel, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that actually getting it to trigger would likely require modifying some of the core files of the forum software with... let's just say... very questionable coding. Files that I personally don't have access to myself, regardless. I honestly need to remove the button from the profile options, because at this point I've pretty much given up trying to get it working.

Making a forum category opt-in is easy enough, but it requires manual approval from admins, which on a site this large would be an absolute nightmare to deal with. So the DF will remain an easily viewable section of the foreseeable future. I don't mind the DF, but I know it rubs some people the wrong way.

Well, it seems that some want to get rid of DF, and at the same time can't do without it. That is a very clear statement!
