Why do all these American vehicles have big boots (trunks)? Is it for the bodies?
Luggage. Usually Bodies are rolled into carpets, stuffed in the back of a box truck, and disposed of at a junkyard, or in a deserted Forest. This last is effective. Back in 69 or 70, a fully dressed body was discovered in NJ's Pine Barrens near a ghost town called Batsto. Because the face showed a gsw to the head, a murder was reported, but there was no one known to be missing in the area. After some testing and blank-drawing over a few weeks, a wallet was found in the immediate area. Turned out the corpse had gone missing in about 1932. Someone propped him against the tree, did him in, and there he sat for 35 years.. It was thought the wallet was moved by an animal smelling blood; everything in it was intact.

The scene in " Millers Crossing" comes to mind

1929-34 Phantom....These cars were equipped with many conveniences, such as separate Pneumatic Jacks for changing a tire, an Eight-Day Clock thst wound with a key, custom seats for passenger Comfort. They could be had with options like a wet bar, with crystal decanters from Baccarat, camera mountings, and even a kitchen with wet sink and iron flat top grill. One of The Maharajahs of India, pre Raj, owned an open topped one for a Shooting Car.
