Edwina Booth, while she still had a career....She went to Africa to shoot a film for Irving Thalberg, "Trader Horn".....And contracted several diseases, a serious issue with her skin because of a costume problem....sunburn at a very bad level...She fell from a tree and injured her back. Thalberg was asked to send doctors and ambulance facilities but did not, for fear of cost overruns. She sued after taking six years to recover from Malaria. It was settled for an amount about equal to 600 k today, not the million she asked.
