Quite a gal....Gable was outraged when she was to be excluded from the Academy Awards, in which she won a "Best Supporting" Oscar For Her role of "Mammy" in GWTW, A first for a Black performer, because the Ceremony was to be held in a "White Only" Establishment, The Cocoanut Grove. He actually told the Studio he would not attend, but his close friend, Hattie McDaniel, told him he HAD to go....Even if she could not. Eventually, the venue set up a table against the Far Wall away from the Stage, for McDaniel and her guests. Still not right, but better than ignoring her.Cool hat, and she wears it well!

A kind of hallmark of Hopper's works. They never gave me the impression of 'down and out', but there was an "Almost" sort of feel there. Stark is a good word. I was in a town west of Spokane once, a railroad town....Passed one little joint that night, that could've been the model for Hoppers best known piece....oddly, the town was "Ritzville"....A sort of stark beauty, if I may. I like this.
