The Clydes that came to the show to display freighter skills are accompanied by one of the Leaders' Colts....hes known as Dennis....the menace.. when the team is in harness and rolling the Arena, he's raving around them like a REALLY big puppy. They're such beautiful creatures, its hard to still see them as work tools... but my mother remembered them delivering Beer to her parents Inn in the thirties and forties....And there were still produce guys with these guys pulling wagons in Brooklyn, when I was a just a lil wrangler. If I can get a pic tonight, Ill throw it in here.
 
We call THIS thing Team Roping....One rider catches the head, while the second lassos the rear feet. A five second penalty is imposed if BOTH rear feet aren't caught. The ropes are kept taut so the calf can be brought to the fire for branding, castration, veterinary process and then released. The Event eliminates the branding and other work.20230624_201822.jpg
 
The end result of "grabbing the Bull by the horns, leaping from the saddle and throwing the steer down. In real ranching this isnt normal, but occasionally you can lose a riata, and might have to do such things. At least we dont bite the bull's nose anymore...Billy Pickett did that when he was inventing the sport around 189520230624_200117.jpg
 
Some of the events run too fast to allow this little phone cam to capture all the action....Here is a Ladies breakaway roper. She roped her calf, and when the calf hits the loop end of her riata, the honda snaps the rope loose from her saddlehorn....Breakaway.jpg
 
Ill find an older pic of Bullriding. I did not stay to see it, because the potty lines are insane by the end of the show, and I was in need. This show ran over three hours, because of the awarding of Championship Prizes....Here they are Silver Spurs. Checks come from the pay window, but the Spurs are given on the dirt.
