Yeah, Id wonder about that too....The top is not going to resonate the same way as a more standard -built would. No amount of interior sound bar could negate that.
GMTA... I can't see the resonances being "proper". Perhaps the "pretty" is either tuned (My gawd, what a task that would likely be!) or somehow (I can't even begin to guess at the mechanism) acoustically isolated?

Much more likely, or so it would seem to me, is that this thing was never intended to actually be PLAYED, just a display/demo piece to show off some woodworker's skills. (which I'd have to rate pretty damned high, at least from this image)

The Hundreth anniversary of the First Railroad in the US, The B&O. Rail festivals were a thing around that period. In some places, they would actually create a rail crash with two locos. FB_IMG_1699210933483.jpg
