Greetings,
I'm not usually good with these type of threads, but thought I'd make an attempt.
I'm a Swedish zoophile in my early 40s. I have liked animals for as long as I can remember, and been "interested" in them since my early teens.
So far, I have not had more than a few light interactions with animals. But I have become increasingly certain that this is the path that will make me happy in the long term.
My main romantic/sexual interest is in dogs, and I am one of those people for whom gender does not matter too much, in animals or humans.
For various reasons, I have held off on getting a dog of my own for more than 20 years now, but I have recently made some changes in my life where I finally feel like I might be comfortable with the responsibility. I hope to be able to adopt a dog within a year or so, but it might take me longer. I do not intend to rush this.
As you can probably guess from my handle here, I am particularly interested in German Shepherds. They have always been my internal model of what a dog *is*. Probably because I knew one when I was very young. But I am also not exclusive to them; I find myself enjoying many different breed, but in particular the larger ones, and especially the ones why are intelligent and curious about the word around them. When it finally becomes time for me to start looking at adoptions, I will always look for GSDs, but I would not be surprised if I ended up with something else, including a mixed breed. For me, in dogs as in people, personality is what matters more.
Anyways, sorry for the long rant, and happy to be part of your community
