Anyone know (non-porn) fiction books about animals that include mating scenes? This is a passion of mine. The descriptions are generally not super explicit or long of course, but still often surprisingly erotic and sensual.
Here's a few I know:
"Samaki: story of an otter in Africa" by Joseph A Davis. Novel is from the POV of a male otter, starting right from his birth. When he's a pup, his mother is described mating with males. Later, when he's becoming an adult, there's a scene (kinda out of nowhere) of him having an erection and it feeling nice. And finally, there is the scene of him finding a mate and their first time.
"Winter of the Fisher" by Cameron Langford is very similar, though by another author. A fisher is a Canadian mink/ferret-like animal. It similarly starts with the main character's birth and his first experiences as a baby. The courtship and mating scene here is *really* passionate. The author describes from an animal's POV how he gets excited when smelling the "wondrously spermatic musk" of a female in heat, and how his urges eventually lead him to mount her. The author takes great pleasure in telling how many hours each copulation lasts, and the (brief) description of the first mating is one of the most poetic and dreamy descriptions of pure innocent sexual ecstasy I've ever seen. (I hope to post an excrept later.)
