Is It Safe to Download Movies?

Again, I apologize for such a stupid question. I noticed that some of the movies people post are mp4 and they play right in the browser. Others are .mov and they open a save dialogue on the computer. So far I haven't had the guts to download anything and watch it.

Are videos vetted when uploaded here? Or could they have a virus?

The better question is. How would the mods/admin know if it's contaminated or not or is it just a a leap of faith they call it

Video files are unlikely to contain a virus. They are not executable files, therefore to contain a virus the file would have to exploit a vulnerability in the media player you are using.
No every single video is not reviewed before publishing. That is physically impossible for a couple of mods to do in real time.
