How has the current wave of puritanism in the Furry Fandom affected you?

being a furry and being a zoo are so interwoven for me and i believe honestly a majority of the fandom, seeing this new witch hunting wave against anything remotely zooey in the fandom is just so funny to me.

I know it is a lot of the younger side of the fandom, whether they have just started to be exposed to the NSFW part of the fandom, are trying to inadvertently avoid bullying by denouncing this aspect of the fandom, or just have that naive sense of needing extreme "justice", but it is making my experience within the fandom sooo much less fun and freeing than it used to be.

being a furry to me was such a fun way to express and find community around enjoying not being human for a bit, as well as exploring kink with similar people, but now i feel pretty disconnected with my presence on social media and within the community now that i have to be careful about even the most tamest presentation of my sexuality as a furry, let alone making connections with other zoofurs and supporting people even on the fence.

how's it been for u other zoofurs?

e621 seems to still look the same, I am not a part of any furry community, so I would say I have not been affected by it at all.

it's been happening for the better part of the last decade....it comes in waves, the "wheel" of furry drama (greymuzzles, zoofurs, poodling, babyfurs, etc) it is within' it'self a meme. You'll find alot of these communities simple exist all be it not publicly anymore, but as always if you "know" where to look you'll find them. The issue is zoo-sadists *love* to make themselves known to the world and try to grab at the furry community as a tag line in those matters.

There is a moral panic about feral p0rn, people want to cancel artists who draw it or at least force them to put trigger warnings on their stuff and keep it away from the general audience. Even though the majority of the people who draw and consume that stuff aren't zoos, the puritans still say it somehow "normalizes" zoophilia.
This sentiment was almost non-existent before 2015 and was uncommon in 2020. But now it's becoming commonplace... It's forcing feral artists to either adapt and make different content or accept being targeted by hate mobs.
It's also caused people to take a strong stance against "realistic" p0rn art because it "comes too close to sexualizing animals", which essentially puts an upper limit on how good an artist is allowed to be if realism or anatomical accuracy is the goal.

Were is the witch hunt happening? Because I haven’t seen any of it
mostly instagram, tiktok, twitter. although, twitter is pretty contained, being on instagram without having other people's opinions and bewares shoved down your throat is almost impossible though if you're active within the community.

When I go to e621 or e6ai (no FA anymore since their web became useless on tor), I can readily find anatomically correct, feral and even bestiality art.
I stopped being a part of any local furry community years ago, when I understood it has nothing to offer to me.
Just a bunch of mentally unstable people talking about things that are beyond not interesting for me. :D
I guess it is not much better today after seeing pics from some furry actions. Maybe it is worse when you mix in the new age behavior of the LGBT community.

eh, that's your experience. i still find value in the fandom as a whole/an interest and i do enjoy a good chunk of the people there, for me it's more so just me adjusting to the community older furries had set up, and now that younger ones/new furries are coming in despite them being around my age too, i just find their lack of experience and knowledge annoying. but, things change! i wouldn't necessarily attribute it to a LGBT thing.

Yea I stopped using Twitter and the other two I never started on. I use Bluesky now but rarely, mostly just enjoy the fandom with friends I trust.

There's been a huge wave of puritanism sweeping over the world for the last 25 years. I don't think that the furry community is any different from anywhere else. Look at some of these sites like "Fetlife", and you'll see that puritanism and judgementalism has invaded there in a big, big way. Nowhere is the same these days as it was when I was in my teens.

I can't wait for the big furry social boards to prohibit feral porn so the feral artists can become furry Al Capone and sell bootleg feral porn at increased cost in private where the fandom cops can't see.
