I've had an account for a while now but I haven't really used it since I don't really know how to approach people but I do want people to just chat to.
How can I start chatting to people?

I would say to look for posts that interest you and reply to them.
Or make posts about what interests you and see who replies to you.

If you see a post that interests you and you would like to discuss it further with the poster, send them a message saying something like "I saw your post in ...... (some thread) .... and wanted to say ..... (whatever) ...
And then sit back and see what happens
But make sure that it's a posting to which you can really contribute some thoughts or opinions rather than spamming people with irrelevant information.
