Growing pup

I have a pup who's around 4 months. I was wondering when he would reach enough sexual maturity to do anything.

Only reason I'm asking is because I've been waiting for him to get older first. But when I had a puppy play date with my friends female dog. He kept trying to hump her. Is that humping just playing or something else?

With four months, play.
BUT be aware many might being productive around six months, even less so be careful when around females. Accidents happen.

And no. For sex with you, still some time to go. There is the playful pup, the confusion phase, the practice... Depending breed and individual likely year or two years. Just let him do

So it's possible for them to do stuff with female dogs before they're actually interested?

Not sexual behaviour, just excitement and playfulness imo. Most male dogs (depending on breed) will reach sexual maturity a little after a year old, with larger breeds reaching maturity later. Personally, I strongly believe that you shouldn't be trying real sexual contact with your dog until close to 2 years, again depending on the breed. Let your dog's body and brain fully mature, let them fully trust you, and let the two of you grow attached and comfortable.

That said, it's also a good idea to get them used to physical contact in all areas; their groin, under their tail, insides of ears, etc. This is pretty common advice even for non-zoos as it makes vet visits and grooming a whole lot easier if they're comfortable with being touched

Always. Nature has ways to use any opportunity to transmit genes even when it is not advisable.

So yes, they play and start trying things. If they hit the right place by accident... unwanted pups

Yeah. I've been making sure to get him used to all sorts of contact for medical and grooming reasons. I don't want him biting anyone.

And I had no plans of anything sexual with him until he was older. It just caught me off guard when I would see him mounting the other dog
