It's best to exercise in the morning on an empty stomach, because then you use the energy that your body has stored in the form of fat.

In the morning, on an empty stomach, right after getting up, the body has to burn fat to gain energy, because the carbohydrate stores are almost empty.

I do cardio almost every morning, on the cross trainer or sometimes I go for a jog. ??

For those that want to read the science behind it and not just take the word from a random stranger.
Pro tip: take a cup of coffee first thing. Gives you a little more energy to do a proper work out and the increased heart rate from the caffeine will aid in burning more fat during the work out.
