Since I am committed to helping stray dogs, seeing this does not excite me but rather angers me at the thought of the irresponsible individuals who abandon their animals. When I encounter this situation, I try to take them to the veterinarian to be sterilized, as this is the only way to curb the proliferation of stray dogs.

I don't know where you live or whether you are aware of the problem of stray dogs. This has little to do with objectification and more to do with helping these poor creatures. Simply putting them in already overcrowded animal shelters is certainly not the solution. Where these animals never return to freedom but only move from kennel to outdoor enclosure (if available) and from outdoor enclosure to kennel. The rest of the time, five of them are crammed into four square meters of concrete, and the two highlights of their day are the pressure washer that blasts away the remaining shit and feeding time. So, if that's not worth living for, I don't know what is. The sooner you try to assess situations more realistically and less romantically, the sooner you can make a difference.

That is a very empathic thing to do, and I love that you are doing it.

I have never seen a stray dog in my country ever, but I have traveled a lot, and seeing strays around always makes my heart ache. I remember once I meat a stray dog while going into a subway station on a trip. I met his eyes as he was going up the stairs and I was going down. The way he immediately started to wag his tail, so full of hope, stopping and looking at me, made me so sad as I knew I could do nothing but move on. I made sure to not try and notice any of them from that point on, as it would only lead to sadness for both of us.
