Seems there are a lot of threads scattered around asking after this topic with one or a few examples posted in replies but oftentimes missing useful data or details. I was thinking it could be useful to have a central thread where people with experience raising dogs from puppies can chime in about when their dogs started showing interest in sex things. At a minimum it would be helpful to mention the following:
-Breed (or, at least, estimated or actual adult weight), since larger dogs mature much slower than smaller dogs.
-Sex
-Activity they became receptive to (humping? fingering? mounting? being mounted?)
-and of course, Age at which they became receptive
It can be frustrating raising a dog from a pup and trying and failing to initiate sex things and not knowing if they are simply not mature enough yet or if they are maybe just not going to be a dog that is receptive to sexual advances. E.G. I have a giant breed boy who is 17 months and hasn't yet shown interest in any sex stuff. Meanwhile there are 9 month old dogs at the dog park who hump everything in sight whose owners lament about the 'deposits' they leave around the house. Rationally I know it just takes longer for big dogs but emotionally I worry he might end up being a dog who does not have much interest in sex, or at least not sex with humans. So, it would be nice to establish a rough consensus about when certain breeds or sizes of dogs tend to become interested in these things, and that way new zoos can have a rough guideline what to expect going into this journey.
So, if you have any anecdata to contribute, please do.
