Addicted is a funny word, to be used carefully. Are you addicted to air? Water? One dictionary definition suggests that may be a valid use of the word.
I'd suggest an addiction, in this case, is being compelled to return to something, even when predictable negative outcomes are very likely. For instance, you might be addicted to fentanyl. You return to it even tho you routinely wake up in strange places, hurt yourself and those you love, etc. Some people drink, and they may even get drunk, but some people are addicted to alcohol. They seek out drinks even when it's a bad idea...right before work or driving. There is no money for the booze, their body is falling apart, they beat up their spouse in a drunk rage. Food...you need food, but some people are compelled to eat the wrong things till it literally kills them, often slowly.
Are you addicted to your dog? When you are ready to go to work, do you stay home with the dog, KNOWING FULL WELL, that repeating that will eventually make you BOTH homeless and hungry? Are you compelled to have sex with your dog in what anyone would consider highly inappropriate times, even in public where you're likely to be arrested, and your dog put down? Have you shunned your wife, kids, family to spend more time with the dog?
