I would suggest you to stay away from pet foods if you could. I didn't try dog food on my dog but I am willing to bet it's the same shit.
I had a cat that we once tried pet food on her and after she started to eat that thing, she wouldn't touch fish ever again
I don't know if it was a weird occasion or something but the drugs they put in that things are nasty I guess besides how are you supposed to know what contents some weird paste has?

Yeah I have a hard time trusting any dog food brand, although some do seem to be more reputable than others. Id like to eventually switch over to a raw food diet again for them, so much healthier and you get peace of mind actually knowing what you're giving them. But now its store bought, plus they seem to gobble it up with glee all the same anyway haha.

I feed Purina Pro Plan. They along with other big names fund the WSAVA which puts out very solid nutritional guidelines. But honestly I say to feed whatever works for your dog. People love to be militant about which food you should feed but if your dog is doing well on it it doesn't really matter.

My only word of caution would be if you go the raw or home-cooked food route, PLEASE consult with your vet and do your research. If it's done right it can be amazing for your dogs but if you do it wrong you can really screw up their health.

Every country has different products, so it would be useless to write brands.
You have to look at its composition. In the case of the middle category, the total percentage of meat is 25-30%. Between the middle and upper category is 50%, the upper category is 50-70% or more.
Rice and potatoes are accepted as filling material. Maybe oats. Corn never.

Within this, you can choose between different types of dry foods, with several meats (chicken, duck, beef mix etc) or one meat (sheep or fish etc).
Everything else is just marketing bullshit (herbs, dried and raw meat ratio etc.).

Brands are important for tracking which ones tend to sell moldy food.

I feed my girl steak mostly, if i wouldn't eat it then why should she?

But she needs biscuits for when she's being looked after because most people just won't make a dog a steak or toast as they thinks its "exessive".
So she gets crave or delicate care as she actually likes the way they taste.

Subject to change though as akitas just aren't food motivated in the slightest and will simply stop eating when they get tired of the food... which is often.

I concur, In the country I live in, Coca Cola tastes different (it used to not to be) and everyone coming here from the West says "it is different". The brands are just some brand names and every country has different products altough I agree that within same country brands are comparable.
I once read something online where American ready store cookies are full of additives while the same brand same cookie has less additives in UK stores which is either per-country health laws or just brands adjusting to local additive prices/health choices/cost of life criteria (also I like reading labels and chocolate here is 50 percent pure sugar even so called Milka). I guess same can be said for pet food.

Just a reminder for people all over the world that it's worth underlining it's important to read labels like the guy at the top says opposed to looking up brands online.

Yeah. And the other reason is that you won't be able to buy it. Even if I list what kind of dog food I buy, 90% of them cannot be found in the USA. Just like I can't buy dog food that can be easily bought in the USA.

A friend of mine had a beagle who lived 18 years. The beagle NEVER had people food, EVER, for 18 years. It only had Purina.
Btw, the only stupid question is one to which you already know the answer.

Not really one answer, it depends on your dog, how active they are, stuff like that. Just takes some time to figure out what works best for your dog. If you're concerned, ask your vet.

Hi, predominantly, we provide raw beef and mutton, for our boys. They do have dry food of course, but we have found raw beef in particular to work best for them. We never give them anything we eat, no processed frozen "people" products. Our Lab does like fruit though! He enjoys a grape and the very occasional orange!

Always check with your vet, though, with whatever you choose to feed them. And always make sure you give the correct amount, there is nothing worse than a greedy, over-weight boy! Lots of proper outdoor exercise will help keep him in top condition.

We know! He likes the very occasional one and we are more than aware of what it does to him. He is very curious and has been sneaking pieces of fruit for around seven years now.
Fair enough, assume your vet knows about it then. Just an easy mistake to make so thought it worth mentioning :)

Because dogs palates and nutritional needs are much different than yours.
That goes without saying, im referring to the grade of the food.
No random dog kibble for her, only fresh vegetables and meat.

She wont even eat steak if she doesn't feel like it much less the nasty mystery meat dog log in the barley functioning fridge at Coles

I have a 12 yr old Newfoundland/ Landseer and he eats Purina

I guess the best food is the one which is cooked daily and made fresh for him
Agree to the fullest extent; food has to be cooked daily if you want best health + a lower price than premium food brands that are super healthy. I am of course talking for dogs.

Yeah an good friend of mine had an dog and he used to make food every day fresh when I visited him and other friends we used to say to him why dont you buy the ready-made food in cans he refused to serve that to his dog because he said its better and more healthy to make it fresh and the dog lived over 12+ years

Exactly, excellent food will do that! Feed your companions something you would eat

I feed merrick with grains kibble, fresh pet refrigerated as a topper and I throw in some instinct freeze dried toppers in there. All different forms of preteins and smells for a more enjoyable and enticing meal!

I stay away from chicken as it's actually a terrible protein for dogs. In my experience working with them for the past 5 years I've seen it cause so many skin and digestive issues. Beef, lamb and duck are my babies favorites.

I feed mine, Taste of the Wild, Acana or Orijen. The food should be hydrated with warm water, it's good for their kidneys and sprinkle dry food judt before serving, which is good for cleaning their teeth.
Add real food to the mix. BARF and real food is good when you are nutritionist, other wise, add the dog food that is a complete diet.
Choosing other brands, the kindle should burn well and without fizzling (which means high grain content = poor quality)
It's true that these foods are expensive, but mind that you need to feed less grams to achieve the same result. So do your math on $ per meal and not $ per kg

These are the three that are also available here from the other continent. Acana and Orijen are top premium brands, I feed with Acana Pacifica. Just too much protein in it, I usually mix other food with it.

Taste of the Wild is a good food, but not nearly as good as Acana, but they are similar in price. Overpriced. In addition, the manufacturer refuses to indicate the exact amount of meat. It can be 35-40% maybe. I was a little disappointed in this brand.
