My neighbors are abusing their dog

My neighbors have an absolutely sweet female gsd. They force her to live with them in a too small apartment (less than 500sq ft with two people) and do not feed her a decent amount of food. She is skin and bones. The wife beats her and drags her around by her skin. Literally the dog is so thin the cunt can grab a handful of her skin off her back and pull her around by it. Sometimes the dog runs out and escapes and she runs to my apartment and scrabbles at the door, trying to get in. They do not properly groom her and her fur is matted. They had no toys or enrichment for her until I showed up and bought her some and the husband got upset with that and started throwing them out. They "walk" her maybe once a day. They do not take her to the dog park or take her on proper walks. This poor girl forces herself into the smallest corner of the apartment possible unless I'm there and she comes out and lays her head on my lap, as if begging me to take her home. Would if I could but as soon as I started showing her affection and attention she latched onto me and they started distancing her from me, like an abusive parent does when their victimized child becomes friends with someone normal.

I'm coming here because I've never had to report something like this before and I've seen how much all of you love your animals. I don't even know how I can report this. I have no picture or video proof, but I don't know what they require. It breaks my heart that this sweet girl has to go through this. I very much want to rescue her out of the situation, even if she goes to a different owner. To be honest with her health the way it is, it would probably be best for her to go to a breed specific rescue.

I'm not entirely comfortable listing my exact location but I live in the southwest. I do not know how animal control works anywhere because I've never abused my animals or been around someone who does.

To be perfectly honest, I want to beat the absolute shit out of both of them. I have other witnesses in the complex as well who would do the same and whenever we hear the cunt of a wife come out to walk the dogs a couple of us will casually slip outside to watch and make sure nothing happens while they're outside.

Of course, we live in America where justice cannot be properly served so unfortunately I can't treat them the way they treat their poor dog.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I still play nice around them and have considered even go so far as to manipulate them into selling her to me, just so I can get her out of there.
 
Take some pictures of her if you can for proof and turn these scumbags in if she is that bad off and being beaten, as a horse breeder I have been forced to do so with some equines I have seen myself and done all I can to get the clearly abused animal out of shit like that :mad:

Wish I could help you with getting her yourself, with equines it would be easy to find whatever rescue she would go to and adopt her, with a K9 I would think she would end up in a shelter and adopting her would be much harder, if you can buy her from these non human scum please do so ?❤
 
Yes please report those abusers her skin/bones is enough proof to have the dog seized from them. Bonus points if you get the dog from the shelter if not well.... At least its not tortured like that anymore. All you can do is 2 things steal the dog from them and get her outta that mess (just my emotions talking here) or report it so you can hopefully purchase ownership of her after seizing.
 
Don't you have some animal protection law? Just call the officials. I have once called animal protection when i found horses pretty much abandoned in a countryside corral, like with curved up hooves etc.

Of course they might figure it was you and try to burn down your car, like crazy people do when reality confronts them.
 
Word of warning having seen this a few times over the years- neighbor relations can get REALLY ugly about this sort of thing. I know of a person whos mini-colt was fed rat poison over exactly this sort of situation- despite the dogs evil owners having been given ample warning and opportunity to get weight on the dog. Consider your actions carefully, especially if the owners seam unhinged. (people who neglect/abuse animals to such an extent often are.)

The safest way to handle this may be if you can just purchase the dog from them, but if you offer, and they refuse- they may blame/target you if they get in trouble and their dog gets confiscated.

Clearly Malnourished= ribs prominently showing (deep, not just a little), very dull coat- no shine at all, obvious physical lack of energy and vigor. -not easily mistaken for just being thin/underweight. Dog looks/acts like it's literally dyeing and needs medical care.

If the dog is clearly malnourished it shouldn't be an issue getting her out of there immediately; contact animal control- the dog will be likely be confiscated, and they will get a ticket/court date- the dog will be held at shelter till after the court date. You could probably stay anonymous in this case.

If she's NOT clearly malnourished, or your not 100% sure- I would talk to witness and collect statements, get photos- then call animal control and talk to them about it. You may not be able to stay anonymous this way if the owners demand a trail, but animal control can inform you better then I can.

If you call animal control without collecting any evidence, and they determine the dog has water available, but is not clearly malnourished- they may give the owner a period of time to address the dogs condition. They will return and if the situation isn't improved they will confiscate the dog/ticket. The dog will be held at shelter till after the court date.

In any case- don't underestimate the potential of an unhinged abuser.
 
Yeah, but at least then it is crazy human against someone of the same intelligence level. Not crazy human against dog with no idea if the world is supposed to be like this or not. Despite, who wants to be friends with crazies anyhow.
 
You local county animal dispatch. If you live in the states. They will do a house call and will most likely do a house call. Or you let her in and take her to the vet. They typically will help the pet and allow local enforcement to deal with it especially if you have the owners info. Document everything as it is still of legal matter because it’s animal abuse
 
500sq ft is not too small to keep an adult dog as long as there are at least two walks a day. There must be, or otherwise the dog will shit/pee inside.

Most GSDs are always skin and bones because they literally are a shit through - They tend not to get any fat even with overage of premium food.
Dont go questioning if they feed them all the sudden as they might feed him well but just with lower grade food. Most of thet you cant notice because they usually have thick coats to cover it but they usually are very thin.

The other stuff you mentioned - Please do look after that. And dont be over reacting. Look for clues that actually hold.

Why do unhinged people get dogs if they dont intend on keeping them content. Do they enjoy being miserable?

Because this is internet its over 90% propability most of it is bullshit and the op needs an outlet because he/she doesnt like or agree with his/her neighbours. Or maybe its just jealousy about the dog. If the abuse story was true the police reports had already been filled and no need for an online outburst.
 
In case reporting them is not a suitable option: Is offering to take her for walks an option? Do you feel like they still want her? If it didn't work how they imagined it then maybe they would actually be happy to give the dog away in a way that doesn't make them feel like complete failures.

I agree with @Gigelina that many dogs—even huge ones like great danes—do not need a big place to live IF they get enough walks, exercise, enrichment. I can't comment on GSDs in that respect though.

Lived with one like it... There's so much I can say about how these guys were... But if you ever lived with one like it... They would make you miserable, while blaming you that you were the reason the dogs are scared, and many other things. This person beats his dog up for so long while claiming its an alpha thing... That dog is now dead. But not after that.. Just later on in the years.. Of course he throws the sad crap.

You mean... He killed that dog? Or did it develop a condition because of his abuse that caused death. Theres a certain point where if i hear a dog crying ill step in owner or not ill take that dog away to make sure its ok. One thing i wont stand for is when its little voice is silenced after pain/suffering. Did the person get away with it or did he (hopefully) die or got a crippling illness.

No. She's had a seizure and choked on her vomit. Gotten info from someone that knows him.
He gets away with almost anything. So, no. He also has charges for leaving dogs in a car. Yet fled the state. Of course he does the whole "It wasn't me, it was someone else using my name" or "it was my dad" excuse. The time will come some day when all of his crap catches up to him. Though some has. He apparently has an illness, but most of it is all talk.
Here's one I can say about him that may explain him more...
He says he's an asshole and doesn't care about anyone or what anyone thinks... The next day. "Why does no one want to be my friend!"

So I don't feel like I'm hijacking a thread here. I can say to the OP to get whatever evidence you can get. Get the photos timestamped if possible.

Get them a pie laced with Ricin. They die within a few days and you adopt that sweet girl so she doesn't end up alone in a shelter. At least she can feel love again.

I've been told before that such comments are venting, not to be taken seriously. I hope that's true for at least a handful of reasons. For example, it would be a tragedy, if a kindhearted person would go to jail for decades due to a prick or if another person would die who snagged a piece of the cake and had nothing to do with hurting the dog.

Well... I hate to break it to you, but the OP hasn't been seen in over a year now. If they ever come back, maybe they'll update everyone.
 
I have enough animal loving friends (all non-zoo) scattered about that if any of us encounter such a situation (we have on many occasions) the animal will be abducted (we have on many occasions) and taken to a loving home far away enough from the abusers to not be found. It is amazing how quickly a dog bonds to the person properly feeding and caring for him or her and how deep that bond grows.
 
well from what you said her being basically skin and bone and her being never groomed or running away would be enough for them to take action but just in case you should try to take pictures as proof and also show them other people that saw what they do with the poor dog theses scum bags deserve to pay for what they are doing and if hell exists i hope they get sent to the wort punishment possible (sorry for any English errors English isen't my original language)
 
This hits a little close to home because I live in a town outside of city limits in Mississippi. Animals are property, and no county animal control, no real enforceable animal cruelty regulations. So I could literally film my neighbor beating the dog to death, show the sheriff, and sheriff will literally be like "so, what do you want me to do about it?". F*cking tragic, and any people running for county office who has ever suggested county animal laws has not been elected.
 
Poor girl, damn, people have no dignity. She's in my thoughts to be taken away from them, hope you can just adopt her or find a way. The only way that she runs to your apartment is that she feels safe there with you 🌹

Same here. Any news about this topic? How is OP and the dog doing?

My country has very lax laws. If you have connections, 'work' with a gang, or have money you get away scot-free with just a record by your name (you may not leave the country legally tho but that people doesn't care).

Now I barely say anything good about my country but it has pretty solid child and animal protection laws. If it happened here and a neighbor recorded them they would get 5 years in prison. Probably the cunt would spend only 3 years. Tho, that's IF she survives. Here animal abuse and child abuse will likely have the inmates take your life. The only animal abuse that has a higher chance to be forgiven is when the animal is killed for ritualistic reasons (Santería. Or pretty much Voodoo with Saints from the catholic religion as a way to cover up/represent the Orishas) as many cops are into that or request such services. But I digress
 
I have been know to take dogs from people, because of the way they treat them, they are like family, give them food, love, walk them, get down on the floor play tug a war, and other games with them. Make them feel loved. I will go hungry before I let a any animal go hungry. People don't need to treat their dogs like crap. If they treat the dog bad, how would they treat a child. They don't need either. They need to be reported.
