Recently I had to rehome my dog because he was fighting with another dog in the house that doesn't belong to me.
I found a mom and son who seems to really fall in love with him and seemed like a good fit.
Now, these folks did not seem to have much in the way of means. They lived in a small house, of which they only lived in half of it because someone else was living in the other half.
I told them upfront that I didn't know how he would get along with other dogs, and made sure they knew about the fighting between the two dogs.
They seemed to understand, but they said they still wanted him.
They did tell me that the person in the other half of the house had a female dog, and I cautioned them about the two dogs meeting each other.
They assured me that the two dogs would not run into each other.
So with assurances in hand, I let Sampson go to his new people and I gave them all of his chip information and told them they would probably have to update it once they took ownership of the dog.
Please keep in mind that the timeframe I'm talking about is over a year ago.
Fast forward to October of 2024 and I notice that there was a voice message left for me from November that I hadn't listened to.
When I listened to the message, they said, "This is X County Animal Control and we think we have your dog."
I was very confused, so I called them and they said that Sampson was either found or turned in (the man wasn't sure) and they found his chip with my information on it, so logically they contacted me!
The X County Animal Control office was about 12 miles away from where I had rehomed him... so how did he get there? I have no idea.
The man at the animal control asked me if I could take Sampson back and I informed them about the situation with rehoming because of fighting between dogs and that I couldn't take him back because the other dog was still in the household!
TL/DR
So anyway, this is my bizzare story about how I rehomed my dog and how he ended up 12 miles away from where I left him. It also shows that chipping your dog can work!
My current dog is chipped too, so hopefully if she ever gets lost I will be able to find her again!
