Mastiffs is a product of Molosser breeds. Its speculated to be one of the oldest breed of dog. Molloser were split into two types, Home protection and Flock protection. Flock protectors are lighter in color so they can blend in. Home protectors and very dark in color so they so they are harder to see.
Present day many Molosser breeds have more jobs than protectors. They now are companions, service animals, pets, family, and friends. Did you know that the Rottweiler was on of the first guide dog for the blind? The Rottweiler almost went extinct when trains took over their job of pulling carts. In WW1 and WW2 Rottweilers saw service in various roles, including as messenger, ambulance, draught, and guard dogs.
Here is a list of its decedents. Not all the breeds listed are accepted by various kennel clubs. But the DNA is there. Some are extinct
The American Kennel Club does not currently recognize Molossers as a separate group of dog breeds, however there have been many proposals to do so. Currently, there are 20 breeds that are proposed as the new Molosser group under the AKC. They are…
