It's not much about semen. There is indeed a cervical mucus plug that closes the access to uterus during pregnancy.
But there are other threats.
Basically medical advice is to follow more hygienic rules than usual when you are pregnant and avoid extrem sports.

A well known exemple of issue is toxoplasmosis a zoonosis from cat that leads to horrible things :

One big fever can lead to this kind of problem.
Dogs are known to be able to spread several viruses.
