I would love to own a dog but…

My dog stays outside for this particular reason
No offense here, but I know in many countries it is still very common to leave the dogs outside or even worse chained all their live. Isn’t a dog called the humans best friend? Doesn’t he deserve to be close with “his” human and share the love giving and deserved? How nice it is on a lazy rainy day, snuggle together on the sofa and watch a movie or read a book.. For me that’s real quality time with my dogs.. In my opinion if I do not like to have my best friends around me also in the house, then better do not have a dog..

I don't like the situation my boy is in either but my family is complicated

Depending on the breed and climate, and given proper shelter a dog can perfectly fine outside.
Specially if the responsible person visits, plays and spends time with them.

A different story are those "abandoned in the backyard" dogs, owners don't care about except for tossing some food every now and then.

I never got a dog in decades cause I dreaded what my family could do. (yeah, sort of complicated parenthood even at an old age)
I finally got the courage little before burying the man, only cause he sort of could not move around anymore.

Where I live it is the norm 🙂 Personally, my dogs are allowed inside and outside, the door is open for them during the day. But they sleep outside, they have kennels with blankets and pillows, but they choose to sleep on the lawn chairs, for some reason. I have actually tried having them sleep inside, since I originally wanted that, but they were super uncomfortable, my oldest would pace by the front door and scratch until I let her out. She sleeps outside, and when we got the new baby, she wanted to sleep with her sister, so now they sleep outside, purely by their own choice 😊

Agreed with folks here about the outside thing. While I never would, I do not look down on folks who have their dogs living outside as long as the climate, breed, care, exercise, and quality time is addressed. Also no chains, that's just inexcusable bullshit. The dog needs a safe area to be able to freely roam and run.
