Not a zoo post but, I plan on hiking the whole AT next year! Has anyone else here ever done it? Anyone live near the trail? I’ve been training with my GSD and he loves hiking so I can’t wait to do it with him!

I wouldn't recommend doing the whole thing with the dog, too much of a logistical nightmare. How long have you been preparing to do this? Have you secured the financial, physical, and logistical resources you need yet? What about exercise and conditioning? I've done a lot of hiking and a few very long/intense multi day/week hikes, some of which were on the A.T. However, we are talking about hiking for months on end here, so a lot harsher than I have experienced.

Yea I’ve done multi day hikes and gotten up to 22 plus miles in a day. Ive got the money and gear ready to go. I just have to wait to start in March

I heard some sections of the trail have a ban on dogs. I don't recall if it involves being fined if caught, but still something to look into.
