Anyone else's male do this? A vet question

He's only recently started doing this and it doesn't happen every time but usually after he has an orgasm, weather it's oral or him tying me, he'll throw up. Sometimes it's 10min after, sometimes is an hour later. It also doesn't matter if it's before or after he eats. I'm just kinda baffled why he's doing this now and obviously it's not something I can ask my normal vet. He just turned 6 and is in excellent health.

This might sound silly but as an insecure girl growing up who knew everyone else I seen in my life would never understand the things I like, I have always been lying about it and dancing around it so it’s my first instinct now 😅
So could you possibly just tell the vet you have been meeting with a female dog and attempting to mate them? And he spews each time?
If anyone doesn’t help you here (which I have faith someone will)
I appreciate the thought and yes, I suppose I could do that but I live in an area that it's extremely common to have animals spayed and neutered, so I already catch enough guff from them with him being intact. He has fathered an actual litter of pups though so it definitely could work for me. Thank you! 😊

No worries!!! I have also thought myself once I started taking notice that sooooooo many dogs you see are neutered. Like a ridiculous % amount, did my work experience last year at a vet and couldn’t believe how many they book in
I know. It's so sad. I have really seen a big shift in the amount of people that are educating themselves to know its super harmful to spay and neuter before 1 year so that's a step in the right direction. I've also helped a lot of folks along the way that's just been indoctrinated to just alter because "it's just what you do". I see things changing in the future. My oldest is a rescue and they neutered him at 2 months before I got him. Poor guy has been riddled with health issues because of it his whole life.

I actually don't think it would be in your best interest to tie the act to the action even if it's lying and saying it's him mating with another dog. If you're already catching guff from him being intact, what's to say the vet will actually look into the issue and not just try and assume being intact is the cause.

I know dehydration can also cause issues. Or maybe overdrinking before or after while hes panting?

I'd look into external factors as well. Have you recently changed what you use to shower or lube with, or any other products you may use? Not sure if he rims and gets something from you that may be upsetting him. Anything change in the location you two go to to have fun in, does the location change? You can also try and figure out if it also happens when doing other actions, like getting overly excited or doing a straneous activity. You can try and look into what he does when he doesn't vomit vs when he does. Like really observe him like a hawk. Not sure how old your pup is either, age may be a factor too. I'd look into all that then if you still can't figure it out, maybe have them run some tests, but if not finding anything, then i'd tie it to that action "mating" and go from there as a last resort type of approach.

I don't know what I forgot here and why I came to a topic dedicated to dogs, but somehow I got here.

I can assume that this reaction could be reflux to the stimulation/pressure to his intestines during mating. Аfter all, you and the bitch have different body structures(different angle of mounting) and it is quite possible that during friction he "presses" your butt on his stomach (especially after eating) and this can cause vomiting.

P.S. I am not a veterinarian and this is just an assumption.

Thank you for all that, I appreciate it.

No, nothing had changed. I'm hyper vigilant about keeping track of everything when it comes to all my guys. He's 6 and nothing has changed. This literally just kinda came out of nowhere. I honestly think age is a factor. Thankfully the last few days he's been totally fine afterwards.

I appreciate your input and yes, thats definitely a possibility as well. I hadn't thought of that. Im usually very cautious of my own body position so I don't cause him any discomfort but he usually does tie for a lengthy amount of time so this theory does kinda make sense. Thank you!

Had a young Rott do this a few times, while missionary! Nope, he was on top.

Just personal experience & thoughts, but after having to deal with & research 'Blout' issues a couple times, I made it a strict practice to never play, rough house, exercise, or other over excite, 'PLAY', for at least 2 hrs after their meal.

Depending on breed, size, but if he is like 100+ lb, & bigger, 'Mastiff', at 6 yrs old, some age things could be starting to catch up. Bigger, shorter lived dogs, might want to keep closer tabs on, for other signs that could lead to internal tumors, that can effect their digestive track. But, could be just some unknown allergen. Something on the wind.

Yea, he's always on top. Only time he's laying down is if he wants oral or I dock him.

Im the same way. No playing after dinner. Thankfully none of my guys are prone to bloat but it can happen to any of them if not careful. My guy is perfect weight for his size at 78 lbs.

He just had oral for a solid 20min and happily snoozing now, so I guess I'll see if he has any vomiting here soon. I did change up the kind of supplements I've been giving him.

I had this problem with a male 3 dogs back so maybe 15-20 years ago. I was lucky I caught it right away. He was allergic to the anal lube I was using so when he cleaned himself he ingested it. I felt so bad. Whenever my buddy gets sick and throws up it makes me act like an old worrying mother.

Thanks for the reply. I did look into that as well but thankfully that wasn't the case. As of lately, my guy hasn't gotten sick after he orgasm in quite a while so im still baffled as to why that happened.

The "tie" can last for 15-20 minutes or even up to an hour, but the male should return to normal behavior afterward.

The mating process can be physically demanding for both dog and partner but it doesn't typically cause vomiting in the male. If the vomiting is persistent, frequent, or accompanied by other symptoms like lethargy, loss of appetite, diarrhea, or a fever, it's important to consult with a local veterinarian that can do some testing for bacteria infection. but if it is only one time after the sexual act it might just be stress or anxiety related.

Thank you! I appreciate it.
Thankfully he hasn't had the vomiting issue since I posted this. My female was in heat for the past 2 weeks so he was in high demand too since I wasn't going to let them mate. During her peak, he needed to be drained twice a day! No vomiting.
