All they are these days is dreadful big Targets. The Exocet and the 'MV Atlantic Conveyor' proved that point during the Falklands War. Large shipping today as vessels of War is simply asking for a parking space on the sea bottom. Smaller ships, missile Frigates particularly, can shoot and move at flank speeds while a large vessel is just waking up. Carriers are an exception, because their range is far greater. Instead of Lobbing 16" rifled Shells from forty miles out, a Carrier lobs self-powered Aircraft from a thousand or more. And even carriers can be susceptible to fire, as with the BonHomme Richard thats now just Naval Scrap.They don't make 'em like that anymore - although possibly for good reason...
