User Permission Updates and Forum Changes

*nods and sighs* I'll wait and see if the groups can be resurrected intact. I'm really disappointed and upset; @ashy (owner) myself and @Mare Lover 1975 have gone to great lengths to make the Mare Lovers group a safe haven for equine keepers/stewards and those that want to learn to be such away from the general forum members. Bestialists, fetishists, porn mongers and wankers they're NOT zoophiles!

The server was updated from version 2.2.13 to the latest version 2.3.7, groups and attachments are both fucked currently and I have no clue how long it will be before the issues are resolved, groups very well may not be as the plugin was outdated to begin with.
Sadly this is wha happens when you skip versions on software updates

Most likely somewhere there was an internal db change that needed a script running on one of these skipped versions

I don't know much about the underlying architecture of this place, but from googling about, looks like there are some truly frightening plugins around the place. The Truonglv one seems a particularly smoldering turd.

Yeah, that is a terrific thought, why don't we all pile on the guy who updated the software, eh? Capital idea, chaps!

If you don't upgrade it - it's a piece of crap! If you do upgrade it and it invariably goes bang! - it's a piece of crap! Oh, and you're the moron who last touched it!

Honestly - you can't really win here! You're going to be the punching bag of all the keyboard warriors this forum has regardless of what you do!

Sadly, both you and I know this is a hell of a lot more complex than that! Mostly related to the fact that the release cycle for these plugins is not necessarily timed to the main forum software ... and in some cases you've got the original coder who dropped the ball on the software and disappeared without a trace about 4 releases ago...

From the point of security the update is a good thing. Now if we can solve some of the issues, that would be even better. :D
If the groups plugin will be deleted, lets us know in advance as I would like to backup some more stuff.
Also if deleting the groups means all group threads will be mercilessly released on the forum, that might not be a good thing.
The images not loading will create so much outrage in the women porn section, that it will probably be fixed quickly. :D

If they had skipped major versions, I'd kinda agree, but 2.2 to 2.3? No. The forum software should be able to handle that migration.
And even if it was a major version upgrade, that shouldn't be causing issues.

The forum software was finally updated from a 2023 version to the most current version by the server admin. It's a giant but necessary leap, as Xenforo typically releases a few updates per year, and we haven't been updating for awhile now. Unfortunately I don't do the upgrades here. A few things are a bit broken for now. I'll see what I can do myself to fix some of the hiccups using the admin panel tomorrow, and go from there.

That is indeed correct. Looking at the nodes in the admin panel, all the groups are still there and seem to all be valid. If there's an update available for the groups plugin, that'll have to be updated by the server admin.

Thank you for your invaluable efforts and explanations. Good luck (re)moving the Forum guts! (y)🍀🍀🍀🤗
