Silly little request with formatting.

Hi there. I've had a convention throughout my life when typing on computers that we add 1 space after words & punctuation marks and 2 spaces after the end of a sentence. Generally after "termination marks", mostly periods, exclamation points and question marks.

From my observation, this 2 space convention makes sentence starts and stops easier to detect. The extra space makes text easier to read.

The odd factor here is that ZV is the first site I've come across that strips any attempted 2 spaces after the end of a sentence. Is there any intentional reason behind this?

If you try to add 2 spaces at the end of a sentence or use non breaking spaces when you submit a post, it's always converted to 1 space. IMO, it makes text slightly harder to read. Is it possible to turn off this text scrubbing?

Curious why it's there in the first place. It seems odd to actively prevent it.

Cheers.

2 spaces after periods is typographically incorrect. It stopped being used over 70 years ago. It was a holdover from typewriters, which inherited it from movable type printing presses, because they used fixed character width slugs. Publishing stopped using double spacing in the 50s, and computer fonts compensate for the fixed slug width by giving each character a unique width that properly spaces the characters (kerning).

Because one space separator is the default behavior and convention for all text in almost every file format, book or any written text. This is not possible to change.

Naah. I'm not even 70! I spent time in the 1990s actually reading Apple's Human User Design Guidelines. There's a concept called "appropriate use of white space." What I noticed is that the extra space after the end of a sentence made it just a tad easier to eyeball the start and end of each sentence. It made sense when comparing using 1 space or 3 spaces. Just like the porridge, it was juuust right.

Of course, we could throw caution to the wind and type in all caps ancient Greek style with no spaces or punctuation ala scriptio continua. THENEVERYONEWOULDHAVESUCHAGREATTIMEANDWHOCARESIFSENTENCESEVERENDATALLWITHOUTANYINDICATORSITSFUNRIGHT

Well, heckin' fuck. That blows. Can't even turn off the post processing once "Post reply" is clicked. Bizarre. Never seen that done before.
