Your in a shelter and the world is filled with zombies

Reconscope

Prized Citizen of ZV
What would you bring and why? (Limitations would be whatever you can carry with backpack when you leave however your starting point is in your home) how long would you stay and method of surviving at first then adapting later?

Clean Water above everything. As much as I can manage.
Some way to filter water - Like those drinking straws.
MRE / Nutritional Bars. Not tasty on day 100, but you will survive.

I'd like to have some high quality boots with (if i can) a replaceable insert for when they wear down.
Some knife multi tool thing with a sharperning stone.

Obviously I'd need a fury companion.

Canned foods too?

I would keep 3 pairs of footwear when one breaks down. It looks like its handled well.

Why would I leave. I'm on the top floor of a complex with a large roof terrace for a garden. The roof can be used to collect rainwater. I'd have to go out to get solar panels though...
Raiders, area control, potential ammunition refills. The ultimate goal to surviving is thriving.

But dang thats a head start.

Obviously would bring my lover (He could probably fit in my hiking backpack, lol).

If there’s no food or water at the shelter, I’d bring that (With my water being in my camelback), A journal/pens, solar lantern, sleeping bag, first aid kit, butcher’s knife, and a really big Stephen King book. Oh, and my life straw should come in handy.

In all fairness a companion is obviously gonna be a big thing for social interaction so loneliness dont crush the individual. Thats a great list.

Its only fair i went next... Lets see theres a couple stores nearby. I could buy up a bunch of resources before everything goes nuts.

I have junkload of canned goods/waters/erg bars so far. While also having a knife machete water filter with a basic first aid (literally counting my digits on my emergency supplies) fire starters. Flares also.

For traveling i already prepared myself 2 different types of supplies medical then theres travel foods i focus mainly on distance if i needed to go. Although duct tape does seem great. The filtered water knifes medicine medical bag all fit nicely together. For armor based thats probably where the duct tape comes in handy to 'fuse' your clothing with barriers vs infection attacks

That's where my Survival strategy comes in handy. I've actually been planning this for a while. Basically I turn the entire complex into a trading post. The more survivors arrive, the stronger we are. We're on an intersection that can be closed off very easily with some cars/trucks, welding, and elbow grease.
Main rules for newcomers:

1: Those who enter must provide something to pay or trade (Medicine, weapons, knowledge, etc)
2: Those who wish to stay will work. No exceptions. There's something for everyone.
3: All weapons must be handed in when you enter, and will be returned upon your departure. No exceptions.

Then I have a list of laws, breaking those laws will be met with a fitting punishment.

1: stealing: lose a finger of your choice.
2: Hurting someone / breaking someone else's property: A week in the cage on minimum rations.
3: Murder: Popular vote. People decide democratically what to do. Can be you get killed yourself, or you get banished.

I got pages of this stuff, lol. It's all in my head XD
How would you prove the crimes if they are done stealthily?

number one would be my girls obviously
second would be one of my guns and bullets. (probably my BFR, as it would fit ready to use, whereas a field stripped AK would require assembly)
third would be MRE's
fourth would be a gallon of gasoline
fifth, a small backpacking model pocket camping stove (to use gasoline in to boil water)
sixth would be waterproof matches
seventh, water treatment tablets
eighth would be a carton of cigarettes
ninth, a bottle of Kentucky Bourbon (painkiller and disinfectant)
tenth, a roll of duct tape
11th a travel pack of toilet paper (use with duct tape to make bandages)
12th small solar rechargeable LED flashlight
13th a good sturdy combat knife
14th a half dozen glowsticks (backup light source)
15th, fill whatever space is left with a canteen or two of water
adapting priorities would be finding a source of water, or building rain collector, hunting or scavenging for food, and then scavenging for more ammunition, gasoline, and tobacco. I'd also scavenge car batteries and whatever lights (hopefully led) I could find to have limited bright electric light in the shelter if needed, and more importantly to illuminate the perimeter for defense when needed. Solar panels to recharge the batteries if I could find them, but if not then just use the batteries sparingly until I could salvage a car alternator (1 wire gm model) or classic car generator, a lawnmower or other small engine, and a belt to cobble together a battery charger.
Some people may think the gasoline backpacking stove is unnecessary, but look at it this way. any water you find is going to have to be boiled, and you can't always count on being able to find dry wood for a campfire, nevermind the fact that personally i hate wood smoke so would rather avoid that as much as possible. (kind of ironic as I'm very much a lifelong smoker, but tobacco smoke doesn't bother me at all). The tiny stove I mention holds about a cup full of gasoline, and you pump up air pressure in the tank, and it burns for about 3 hours, so a gallon would last a couple weeks or more.

You mean the world isn't full of zombies already, have you walked around a modern city lately people are more interested in their phones than looking where they are walking.

Besides I'm safe zombies don't come out to farms, :gsd_laughing: or at least I've never seen one walking up a long driveways of any rural property in any film I've ever seen.

Night of the living dead was set in rural area at a lone house

Run and hide in a shelter? Of course not. That would hurt the zombies feelings.
How would you feel if you approached someone, wanting to make a new friend, and they ran from you and hid?
Wouldn't that hurt your feelings? Yes, it would. I would give the zombies hugs and some flowers, then we would have pizza
and soft drinks while watching a movie, or just talking together and bonding. We would also exchange phone numbers so we could talk just anytime we want.
I would thank every day for my new friends.

OK BOOMER
No I think I'm a bit young for that tag, I just somehow manage to live my life with out being glued to a phone. It lets me avoids stepping in piles of ... here on the farm. I tend to think we all should just have implants and do away with the hand sets all together. That way the brain can be entertained with whatever while not diminishing real world senses like sight and hearing. How else are we supposed to avoid all these zombies.

Water, water cleaner's and nutritional bars for short term survival.
M16, ammo a machete for protection and a machete can be useful.
Fire starter, fuel for fire, tarp, water proof clothing and sleeping bag - keep you warm, dry and something to snug into at night.

If I'm in a shelter and the outside world is full of zombies then I'm scared shitless and anyone who says they aren't is full of shit.

Well, I cannot see myself leaving my farm and my horses. I live way the hell outside the city so there should not be many zombies out this way, but should I by some happening have to make my way to a shelter, I would have everything in a rucksack that a soldier would be expected to have, my handgun on my side, Ar15 or ak47, moderite amount of ammo for each (mainly to keep other non zombie people from trying to take my shit) and a one handed sword for lopping off zombie heads if I ever had to leave the shelter.

You all need to play games like Project Zomboid. IWBUMS builds are really fucking good, modding community is on fire and it's pretty hardcore, as well as the sandbox is REALLY customizable so you can tweak the game to your liking.

I did not understand 3/4 of the verbiage you used there so I think that will be a hard pass for me.

Booze, and lots of it. Not only will I want to be drunk during the end times but so will everybody else. That sucker who brought food will offer a great trade for a bit of my whiskey.

I am not a drinker, but it a situation like that, I just might start!

I haven't played since before they added vehicles, but it's probably still the best zombie-survival game I've ever played (that or 7 Days to Die). Has it gotten much better since?

IWBUMS overhauled the animations and models. Vehicles are added and are really great, all the weapons have had overhauls and the combat feels more fluid. Clothing was overhauled so that every layer can be seen (if a Zed chews your sweater's right arm, you're going to see the long-sleeve under it) and other systems expanded.

No zombies would get to me on my little island. I have food, my boys, my guns. I am safe.
Sorry to disappoint you but zombies not having to breathe like a human person can simply walk under water . Was a scene in one of George Romero's zombie films where they pop up in the harbour

Never seen it! I'm not a fan of zombie films, but if they are all staring at their phones they won't know which way they're going anyway. :)

Actually in the film they remember what they did before they turned , one scene they are in band stand trying to blow a trumpet and the leader was a petrol service attendant . They are distracted by fireworks in the sky launched by survivors to gather supplies from stores
