So, I was joking around in another thread and wrote a love poem about my dog. I actually ended up really liking what I wrote because it had a lot of meaning to me.

Here's my love poem, (with a few tweaks)

"My newfie is truly great.
It's love, always love, and never hate.
This is not a debate.
My dog will always be my date.

Did we meet by fate?
With all the time I had to wait?
Love is really never too late.
She will always be my mate.

She will be mine.
Until the end of her time.
Our love is devine.
She's worth all my time and every dime!"

Let me hear some of your love poems to your animal partners. It doesn't matter how cheesy they are!

Don't have a partner of my own, so I'll share a very old one: "The Dog and His Master", by Anne Kingsmill Finch, featuring a man and his dog, the latter being a far better judge of character and protective.

No better Dog e'er kept his Master's Door
Than honest Snarl, who spar'd nor Rich nor Poor;
But gave the Alarm, when any one drew nigh,
Nor let pretended Friends pass fearless by:
For which reprov'd, as better Fed than Taught,
He rightly thus expostulates the Fault.

To keep the House from Rascals was my Charge;
The Task was great, and the Commission large.
Nor did your Worship e'er declare your Mind,
That to the begging Crew it was confin'd;
Who shrink an Arm, or prop an able Knee,
Or turn up Eyes, till they're not seen, nor see.
To Thieves, who know the Penalty of Stealth,
And fairly stake their Necks against your Wealth,
These are the known Delinquents of the Times,
And Whips and Tyburn. testify their Crimes.

But since to Me there was by Nature lent
An exquisite Discerning by the Scent;
I trace a Flatt'rer, when he fawns and leers,
A rallying Wit, when he commends and jeers:
The greedy Parasite I grudging note,
Who praises the good Bits, that oil his Throat;
I mark the Lady, you so fondly toast,
That plays your Gold, when all her own is lost:
The Knave, who fences your Estate by Law,
Yet still reserves an undermining Flaw.
These and a thousand more, which I cou'd tell,
Provoke my Growling, and offend my Smell.

I've never done poems before, so forgive for this garbage.

This one is for my husky.

To my dearest husky that makes me happy,
The love you beam is bigger than your paws,
Your love can make even the worst of days less crappy,
And your love is shown in every mark left by your claws:husky_wink:

You are goofy and soft as a cloud,
Anything happening to you would leave me with a great heartache,
But please stop being so loud,
That shits giving me a headache.

I know this thread is old, but I’m a writer and I couldn’t resist. Enjoy.

If you could say anything
What would you say?
Is there something you’d ask me
Or would the words fall away?

Would you judge me
If you understood me?
Would you love me
In a world where we could be?

Eyes like melted chocolate
A smile bright as a dandelion
Would you still think it was worth it
Would you still follow me towards the dying sun?

I often wonder
I often worry
I often blunder
I often hurry

Right when I begin to think we’re a mistake
That this love is fake
That you only see me as a tool
Easy food, a simple fool

You gaze at me with those eyes
Warm, sweet eyes
Like hot chocolate before a newly lit fire
Filled with affection that will never expire

My love,
When you’re gone I’ll miss you dearly
But my love
Will remain as long as you stay near me

So sleep beside me as long as you like
Keeping the monsters away at night
Gently snoring without care
Nothing else can ever compare

Wherever you are, I will always be there.
