Last book I finished was "The Roman" by Mika Waltari. Fist historical fictional novel I read; it was different and weird and kinda romantic (it was neat to imagine how it must be to live a basic citizen's life in Nero-era Rome. However, it ends in an existential tragedy... not just tragic for the characters, but I felt hurt and betrayed by the end. Not a very sympathetic writing mechanic.
I tried reading another book in Waltari's historical fiction series, "The Etruscan", but I hated everything about it except the cool, sassy main character. Way too much literal murder and rape (again, normal for the era, but I don't wanna read about it). Then I tried some scifi book called "Children of Time" by Thaikovsky. While very creative and unique, it was really just a ton of obscure, weird ideas that I can't relate to or genuinely care about it. I haven't bothered trying to read anything in years. I just don't enjoy it anymore.
