What's a good way to memorialize your animals that have past?

I have been thinking about getting my animals paw prints tattooed, but I'm also looking for other ideas,

Sits on my desk just above my mouse, so I can "hold his hand" at any time. His birth and death dates are written on the back.

When my Ball Python passes away, hopefully no time soon, I plan to have a taxidermist preserve them like this.
