What is the meaning of this ζ ?

It's the Greek symbol for "ZETA" which in itself is an acronym for "Zoophiles for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

The ZETA principles are:

  • Bestow upon animals the same kindness one would wish bestowed upon oneself.
  • Consider the well being of an animal companion as important as ones own.
  • Place the animal’s will and wellbeing ahead of one’s desires for sexual gratification.
  • Teach those who seek knowledge about zoophilia and bestiality without promoting it.
  • Discourage the practice of bestiality in the presence of fetish seekers.
  • Censure sexual exploitation of animals for the purpose of financial gain.
  • Censure those who practice and promote animal sexual abuse.
As defined by Zeta-Verein.

Awesome! Thank you very much!

It is called "Zeta" the symbol is how the Greeks wrote the letter "Z." It has been picked up by ZETA, the first real zoophile rights group. Zeta is based out of Germany. The acronym just happens to spell out the word zeta. Needless to say, it has become an important symbol in our community. It is said that if you see a girl with two dog print tattoos on one of her breasts or if she has the Zeta sign on her shoulder then she might be a zoo.

Please allow me to prevent or correct some misunderstandigs: The ZETA principles do not come from the German ZETA Verein. The small Greek letter zeta ζ was not introduced by the German ZETA Verein either. Both the principles and the use of the letter ζ predate the German association, probably by more than a decade. I actually have a zeta pendant that is a handful of years older than the association and such pendants were produced in batches back then. As happy as I am about some of their achievements, please don't credit the German association with other people's work and realize that our history and, if you'd like to call it that way, culture is deeper and rooted all over the world.

ZETA as in ZETA principles was a play on PETA and as such stands for "Zoophiles for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" as @FloofyNewfie pointed out.

The German association uses the same acronym, but with a different meaning, "Zoophiles Engagement für Toleranz und Aufklärung", which the association translates as "zoophiles commitment for tolerance and awareness" into English. You can call ZETA a backronym in case of the German association: its meaning was deliberately constructed so that it would result in ZETA when abbreviated, exactly because "zeta" was already established as a zooey term. The name of the association was chosen in a voting by the way. The winning name had been proposed by tigerlily.

I hsve that letter on several various internet profiles. And there were few instances when other zoos recognised and knew what it meant and helped me to make new friends.

How have you not been outed yet there are so many anti's who also know what that means.
Most of those are children, and they tend to roam on only some kinds of sites. I used to know someone in the local furry fandom who wore his zeta pin to a few furmeets. Turns out most people are unsure of what it really means, even if they know the connotation.

Honestly I'd me scared of someone sneaking a picture then putting the person on blast later.

I will say furry is a good way to meet zoo's if you are smart.

Rumor someone is a zoo? Make friends.

Someone calls someone a zoo after a bad breakup?

Hit that person up.

Person seems to go quite when zoo comes up.... maybe a zoo.

You just really gotta feel them out over time.
Anti's expose themself easily. So they filter themselves out quickly.

It helped me to find new connections in the past with Zeta and if antis ask anout it always say ima furry and just pretend thats all I know about that symbol

I've had a zeta pin for a loooong time. Wore it once to a meeting of likeminded individuals so they knew I was a zoo. But now, with all the smartphones around and the chance you get tagged in a picture wearing it, too risky. And safer than a tatoo :)

Where did you get it from? Looks like its been cast from metal

Ordered it from a zoo related website long ago, which has been shut down for a while. Can't think of the name right now. It is indeed a round metal pin, the black rectangle is just the cardboard I pin it on in order not to lose it.

Zeta is the name of that letter in Greek. If the truzu co-opted it, fine....but it was a letter long before it was an acronym

"Zoophiles for the Ethical Treatment of Animals." is actually a backronym. That came quite a while after the zeta symbol itself was in use.
